Back in August, I was driving my daughter's car back from being serviced and it appears I went through an amber/red light (whilst turning left) - the times and dates are below;

Offence - 9th August
NIP to daughter dated 16th August
Returned stating I was the driver - 22nd August
NIP to me dated 9th September
Returned 17th September stating I was the driver

I would have thought that I would have heard something in the intervening two months, given that it's a slam-dunk for them and there there is nothing to contest or prove?

Is it likely to be a backlog or could they have reviewed the picture(s) and simply decided not to proceed? I find this unlikely, so am presuming that it must be a backlog but not too sure how slow they are, given they got both NIPs out fairly quickly.

How long do people usually wait until they get 'the letter'? (am assuming that there is actually a letter sent out laugh)

They've got six months, as far as I am aware.

You will probably hear something from you within that time. It is very unlikely that they will have reviewed anything.

This is the correct answer.

Thanks - is that 6 months from the date of the offence or from the date of the NIP to me?

Sorry to laugh, but that's a job I'd absolutely love...crushing people's hopes and dreams just as they're beginning to believe they've dodged a bullet. But in true hypocritical style, I'd be furious if it happened to me.

There is always hope it will time out (although Glasgowrob's case explains why you should not get too excited).

I received a NIP for 37 in a 30 many years ago and it was just before I took a job overseas. So I signed the NIP and gave the address I was moving to.

Never heard anymore. (You need to wait 6 months)

Curiously, I was so relieved about this it could well be what should be the desired effect of fines happened to me - since then ( a decade ago) I have rarely if ever broken speed limits, although I am not sure that has made me a better driver.

Slower though.

OP when you returned your nip, did you fill in the FP part or just confirm you were driving? From the time elapsed it may seem that you have not , perhaps in error, accepted an offer of a FP (assuming there’s was one) and they are going to court. What were the offence details, time into red etc?

Ummmm, I’m not sure to be honest - I think it was only asking me to confirm that I was driving. Don’t remember being asked if I wanted to take a fixed penalty or not?

I don't think the penalty is any different for length of time elapsed except on a level crossing.

ETA: .gov suggests it's a TS10 for

"Failing to comply with traffic light signals" which carries a fixed penalty of 3 points and £100 fine

Thanks. Nice to get a reputation for honesty.

Something else I enjoy, watching someone return to their car to find a parking ticket. rofl

On the day before the 6 months is up the OP will get a court summons! Personally I'd chase it as a CS is a bh + at court the OP will be royally screwed.

Some years ago I returned a nip for speeding and never heard any more about it. I have no idea why and didn't pursue the matter but it shows that it does happen.

What OP means is, they went through a red light. ‘Amber’ and ‘turning left’ have nothing to do with this. I am not being funny, but please be honest with yourself.

Well, quite. I’m not one to chance scooting through a red light, so it must have been pretty marginal. I went back to the turning in question and it has those lines after the stop line so I guess I must have triggered those if I was going slowly enough on an amber and turning left.

I have been honest with myself and have no problems taking what’s coming - not really sure why you have bothered commenting really as my question what about whether I should have expected something through by now, not how I can wriggle out of it rolleyes

He/she was joking. You still have time to reach the parrot shelter if you hurry.
