Christmas Food 2019: Where do you get yours?
Discussion
Where are you planning on getting your food from?
It’s easy to get snobby but all of the supermarkets do a bloody good spread these days whatever your budget.
Personally we go local turkey supplier directly (I like a Kelly Bronze) for the bird, Booths for the accoutrements and then I do a mix of Aldi and M&S for the various other items.
I think wherever you go the choice is excellent these days - we are spoilt.

Just two of us for Christmas lunch this year. Able and Cole have some nice stuff so ordered a boneless muntjac saddle, they have some nice seasonal veg on their site too so will order some on there closer to the time. The Wild Meat Company also has some nice stuff, will get some wild boar sausages from their site too. Not been able to find any lamb bacon anywhere for sale so gonna buy a lamb breast and make my own.
Rest of the stuff will be Sainsburys and Morrisons as they have surprisingly good fish so might do blue carp Christmas eve.

That muntjac sounds excellent. Farmison seem to be marketing quite hard as well - anyone used them?
I do like a Beef Wellington as well on Christmas Eve as well but being too lazy to make it we normally just buy one in. Some dressed crab to start with a nice Meursault as a treat as well.
Crumbs I’m making myself hungry typing this...

Taylors for cheese, veg and meat (Goose, lamb and sausage meat ect.) https://taylorsfarmshop.co.uk/
Always excellent quality produce, with the added bonus of a grotto (with free sausages and roast potatoes for parents!)

If I was doing Christmas lunch (ill probably just have a curry) I would use Rooks

For me Xmas eve is 4-5 really good local cheeses and butter, a decent sourdough loaf and a couple of bottles of red.
Xmas day will be a brined turkey breast which comes from Bookers.
New Years day is beef Wellington, whole fillet from Bookers again.
Obviously I could spend a whole lot more, there are some amazing producers locally but (personally) I think the cooking is actually more important than the provenance of the produce.

We get our Norfolk bronze (6.5kg crown) from Mel Broome in Warwick. Been the best place we've found so this will be second year of using him.
Will have him knock up some Gloucester old spot pigs in blankets too which are ace.
Wouldn't know where to get even nicer veg so will just grab what we need in Costco probably.
Maybe a Christmas pud from Waitrose as sometimes they do a slightly more fun one.

I don't care for turkey (i'm not english, but british). i will happily eat chicken, beef or lamb. or fish (which is more traditional for my roots). everyone knows the best part of a roast is the pigs in blankets. roast on day 1 is boring, but sliced up and put into sandwiches, baguettes, curries or stir frys are the best.
here's hoping this thread will have people submitting some interesting festive offerings frrom the supermarkets (like that 6t long pigs in blanket). always up for different things.

Some good stuff here. I'm only cooking for three, and one of those wouldn't object if you served up a Butterball turkey... Usually just have a three bird roast from Marks and Spencer, but might have to look at something different.
I’m going to make a note of all these online links, for years my wife has ordered a turkey crown and a gammon joint, online from M & S.A couple of days before Christmas, we’d go to M & S at Canary Wharf, where she’d buy veg, nuts, booze, biscuits, and pick up the ordered meat.
But having seen their commercial this year, with Paddy McGuinness, she’s decided to drop them out.
“If they can use that no talent object, with his appalling accent, to say that their stuff is good, they must really be going downhill”, she said, “I’ll look around for somewhere else, even if I have to pay more.”
I’ve tried to point out to her that we’ve always been happy with M & S, plus it’s conveniently close, but she seems adamant.
I don’t like the guy, but not so much that I want to take a chance elsewhere, and possibly pay a lot more.
