To be slightly fair...it would be better if we weren't paying ~£50 billion a year on interest payments for all the debt!
Accepted. Wasn't the most pressing problem, would have been more accurate.

I think the document needs to be opened to public scrutiny. I see no 'obvious' Labour anti-Semitism problem, and would like to know what people mean by that accusation.
Stick to the 'slow-cooker recipes' thread. You have gone full-blinkered on this one.
Of course, blinkers are removed, and minds broadened, when any discourse about politics takes place in an echo chamber of one's own prejudices.

Based on your history which is very contributory and reasonable, my take is you have kids about to go to Uni and you don’t fancy student debt.

Not at all.

I benefited enormously from my university education, and I'm sure have more than repaid the cost of my tuition in the higher rate tax I've paid for pretty much the past thirty years.

I would like today's young people to have the advantages I had: free tuition and maintenance grants. Not to start working life saddled with debt, £2.7 billion of which was written off in October 2019. No doubt more to come. That's topsy turvy economics.

So it seems the leaked "NHS breakup" documents did come from Russia. I'm sure Carole Caldwaller will be all over this story..........

I agree with that, within limits. Let's not forget it was Labour who introduced tuition fees and the LibDem and Tory Coalition that increased them, so none of the parties come out of this with their heads held high.

The numbers of people going to university was much lower before tuition fees were introduced. Thats one of the drivers for bringing them in, to finance much higher numbers into further education.

The Tory government first cut maintenance grants. I was the last cohort to receive a full one, back in the late 80s.

Ah, way before my time... although a quick google suggests means tested maintenance grants were eliminated between 1999 and 2000.

Yes they were. The value of the maintenance grant having eroded over time. It was a long process, started back in the 80's.

Looks official and confirmed as far as I can see.

I wonder if all the Remainers talking so worriedly about Russian interference will now avoid the Kremlin backed Labour party scratchchin

Don’t be daft the patsies will soon be posting a video all over social media of some dubious academic who says this Russian interference is actually good for Britain much like that Labour antisemitism video currently doing the rounds.

BBC reporting it this morning, this may well be Corbyns and Labours downfall, claiming that the USA is going to 'buy' the NHS using documents leaked by the Russians is not a good look.

Kremlin backed Labour Party?
Behave. When Brandon Lewis is on record as stating that wealthy Russians have the right to 'invest' in British politics [via donations to the Conservative Party] and No 10 has blocked a report revealing the full extent of their involvement until after the election. Anyone would think the Tories were hiding something...

Big difference between wealthy Russians and the State. Putin would love to deal with Corbyn. It would fracture the U.K./US relationship. He could pick off a couple of ex Federation countries.
