Perhaps not but the law attempts to prevent previous convictions prejudicing a case so you can't use his past to paint this as an example of someone just being up for a fight rather than apprehending another violent criminal.Whether he was brave and heroic is another matter.
I know someone who did time for a quite a nasty attack and now looks back on it with shame. I hope they'd never be forced in to a situation like this.
