We are currently moving towards submitting our planning applications for a big remodel and minor extension of our house. (think downstairs only one internal wall isn't being touched - and every external wall either being changed or extended!)

Whilst we are loving the opportunities of a big 7m glass opening from the kitchen (still to decide on bi-folds or sliders) and a 2 story x 2m window in the hall

But, as I work away a lot we want to ensure the house still feels secure/private so we can't just leave them uncovered the whole time. Trying to find window 'treatment' ideas for such large expanses that don't feel like an office/theatre

Obviously googling like crazy - but any experience here?

We had Luxaflex Duette blinds fitted to similar. Not cheap but would have eventually paid for themselves due to lower heating bills. They made the place feel and sound cosier in winter as we did not have any other window fittings.

Have a look at wave curtains which are quite a modern look but not officey or theatre dramatics (I linked a pic previously for someone so look back in my posts if needs be).
Also don't just think solid fabric or no fabric at the windows, as suggested you could have blinds (lots of varieties available for privacy levels, one of my suppliers do whats called zebra blinds which cover several opacities in 1 unit), or you can have voiles so the light can still get in but its not see through & could be lined to add greater opacity but still not completely blocking light.
As an example on the 7m glass in the kitchen you could have a twin track which would allow you to have voiles and curtains available to draw across as you want at the time. In the hall with the tall window you could have a curtain drawn to one side only & a pelmet (doesn't have to be anything fancy just an option to finish off the top of the window)

Happy to try and help further and come up with a clearer picture of wants or don't wants, i'm assuming by office you're thinking the typical vertical strip blinds and stuff that collects dust, & theatre = big heavy dramatic curtains, there are lots of fabric & options out there that don't fall in these categories smile

Thanks, still a way off but sounds like there are plenty of solutions, also found a product called Allusions which looks quite interesting..

I decided I didn't want curtains or blinds - I wanted a very clean look.

However, I'm also away a lot & wanted security, so I had aluminium roller shutters built in - my widest door is only 6m wide though smile

You don't notice they are there when they are open - nothing to see really as the rollers are concealed in an overhang - but secure when they are down

Stayed in an apartment when skiing that had electric roller shutters on all the windows. Confusingly the controls looked like just another light switch!

That's where we got the idea - they worked so well, we decided to have them in England too
