What?

Religion is the problem.

The bible puts the age of the earth at about 6000 years (once you do the maths), and 40% of Americans believe the as the was created by God less than 10,000 years ago.

The Catholic church only accepted the earth orbits the sun in 1992!

It's all nonsense. However, it is entirely possible that we inhabit a simulated universe. Just try to prove otherwise........

I find it quite funny how posters seem to think they have the most intellect and that any other opinion or way of thinking must, by default, be nonsense and stupid.

These posters would be the same morons who would have laughed at those who thought the world was round once upon a time.

You just dont know what we will uncover in 5, 10, 20 years from now so dont be so cocksure yourself
When was this time you talk of when people laughed at

It's difficult to not laugh or punch in the face someone who believes that Earth is 10,000 years old and that the dinosaurs existed at the same time as humans but were wiped out at the time of the Flood, but FFS Young Earth is a new (to me) term that people seem to be having serious conversations about.
Is this not quite common amongst some of the highly religious in some parts of the USA?
I believe you are an anti-vaxxer aren't you? Only I recall you supporting that view on another thread some time ago.

I find it difficult to believe that those who profess to believe in creationism do not. They see it as a test of faith. It’s a form of elitism. These are above us. It’s nonsensical of course, but while they push it, it brings in people to religion. Science is difficult. God is much simpler. Let’s get comfort from myth.

The suggestion that a god would be simple to understand rather destroys the logic of godding.

There was some vicar on Have I Got News for You who, when challenged about demanding that parents of children go to churches and stuff, he said that it got them in through the doors, so deceit is OK as the end justifies it. Nice and godly.

It’s a fad that had had it’s day, and then along came the internet and they could have their get-togethers and fight the man.

We know that Darwin explained a phenomenon so disproving Darwin doesn’t destroy evolution any more than Einstein did Newton. Tell that to them and they answer just like a politician.

Anyone should be allowed to believe what they want to. If it makes them happy to have proof that they are better than the rest (a universal meme of abrahamic religions) without too much effort on their behalf.

I used to think it was best to ignore them, like a small pain, but I’ve changed my mind. They need to be slapped in the face by logic. They should be challenged but without dropping to their level. Use test fact.

Gershwin was wrong. But I think he was more concerned about writing humourous lyrics rather than teaching science history.

At the time of Christopher Columbus, it was well known that the earth was a sphere. In fact, it had been known for sure that it was a sphere since around 200 BC. What WAS in dispute was the actual diameter of the earth. Eratosthenes got it reasonable correct but Ptolemy had come up with a smaller figure. It was only when the world was properly circumnavigated in the early Renaissance period that the true diameter was ascertained - and it showed that Eratosthenes had been closer to the true figures.

Let's be rational:

(1) the earth is flat- just look around.

(2) The moon is a disc- look up!

(3) Nobody could land on it. No landing

(4) The mafia killed Kennedy

(5) Have you met a dinosaur? of course not!..but there are presreved example of the Dodo and the passenger pigeon. They just didnt know how to preserve dinosaur fossils and they perished in the flood.

Actually you need to visit the museum of civilization in Kentucky. VERY persuasive...a few pics I took:

There is an explanation , people!!! HTH

I’ll bet you a large amount of money that they don’t uncover evidence that the planet is only 6,000 - 10,000 years old.

What do you think? Feeling lucky?

Opinion is one thing, preaching against long proven, extremely well evidenced fact, is another.

Still, as long there’re people like you around.........

I was born and raised as a Jehova's Witness - got out as soon as I was old enough to think for myself.

They believe that the Earth was created less than 10k years ago, that everything was created at that time by god, and that there's no such thing as evolution.

They also believe that dinosaurs never existed, that all the fossils found were hoaxes, and that carbon dating isn't a thing.

I got laughed at a lot at school when I tried to put the teachers right about stuff like this.

Religion has a lot to answer for.

Religion has a lot to answer for.
a/ you were not a Witness long enough to learn to spell their name
and b/ to learn their beliefs.
the 3 things you claim about dinosaurs, fossils and carbon dating, are incorect.
I think there may have been other reasons why your teachers were laughing at you!

As religion wanes, the people who would normally turn to religion have find a home for their needs so they often turn to pseudoscience or conspiracy theories.

That's the difference between a computer and a conspiracy theorist - you only have to punch the facts into a computer once.
