Still a high chance of another eruption.
I'm thinking those tin-foil looking suits and BA's would give whoever goes in a far better chance than poor tourists in their shorts and t-shirts. Good luck to them!!

I will never understand why lives are put at risk to recover bodies.

Part of the human condition I think.

My wife is quite upset that the lives of others are being put at risk for recovery of bodies that the NoK will not be able to recognise.

If I were a victim of something like this it would be the last thing I'd want.

Not saying it right or wrong. They interviewed one of the helicopter pilots who lost a brother there, he also flew in right after the event. He was quite clear.

As long as the people "going in" to do the recovery are doing so by their own will i don't see the problem. They know the risks, so it's their choice.......

I think I there is concern that if it rains the ash will turn to concrete and make it much harder to find or recover the bodies.

Knowing the Kiwis, I suspect they have a lot of people willing to do this mission if the initial response is anything to go by. I think some risks can be mitigated, the one that can't is huge lumps of rock falling out the sky. Heat and gasses possibly.

The locals were planning to do it themselves but police managed to talk them down.

Reports that 6 bodies have been found, 2 still missing.

Just saw this line on Sky News...
Scientists have warned that gases on the island are so toxic and corrosive that a single inhalation could be fatal.

:-(

Such a sad story in terms of the people involved and what they were doing, many on honeymoon or big family moments and then left with incredibly horrid situations afterwards, either fatality, dreadful burns or witnessing it first hand.

Still two missing, one believed to be in the water. The press conference is telling.

The stupid thing is there is the whole "questions over why people were allowed to visit the active volcano" thing going on, yet apparently it was/is important to send people to find bodies when the risk is far higher than it was before the thing went off.
