No can do comrade. Not pro Labour but pro EU and don't want to leave but there is nothing we can do now except look forward to saying "we told you so". Nice one, Workington man.

Read this article earlier. Workington man said: "I’m not daft. I know Boris isn’t going to do anything for me but at least he’s committed to making Brexit happen. That’ll do for now.”

“So congratuIations if you wanted Boris Johnson as pm.

Please don’t celebrate too much though as you have work to do. You see us remoaners have spent three and a half years now telling you brexit was wrong but we’ve finally and completely lost. There’s pretty much nothing we can do now to stop it.

So, it’s over to you leavers. You need to get yourselves into gear to make it work. We need to see some of these benefits you’ve been able to see yet unable to properly articulate since 2016.

I hope you don’t mind but I’ve taken the liberty of writing a “to do” list for you.

1. Get brexit done please. When we say done we mean as promised so we’ll be looking for trade deals with the EU, Japan, Australia and Canada etc. In fact there’s about 40 deals covering 70 countries that need to be done please. Also with the US that doesn’t involve the nhs or chlorine. We want what you promised us. That was that we’d be no worse off than when we were an EU member. You need to crack on as this was promised by the end of Jan. You have seven weeks.

2. The NHS. We want the cash that was promised please. £350 million per week is about 72000 nurses so please get recruiting. This is important.

3. Scotland. Ok so these guys were promised they would remain in the EU if they remained in the UK. They’re pretty pissed. In fact they’ve voted almost exclusively for the SNP so they might want to leave. Equally you said the UK wouldn’t split so you’ll need to both grant Scotland its independence and keep it as part of the United Kingdom. Good luck squaring this circle. NB This is urgent.

4. Northern Ireland. Oooookay then. You’ve really buggered this one up. There’s a chance they could look to reunify with the republic now because they didn’t want to brexit. Regardless you’ve caused instability there where we and they can least afford it. NB This is also urgent.

5. The economy. Johnson keeps talking about unleashing the potential of the country. We need to see this soon if possible. We don’t want to see the downturn that “project fear” predicted. We don’t want to be poorer. We don’t want to lose out.

6. You’ll also need to “bring the country back together”. This might be tricky as a lot of people seem to be really really angry with each other.

That’s as far as I’ve got. Should keep you busy. So go and get all british about things. Roll up your sleeves, pull your socks up, dig deep and deliver what you promised.

And remember if you fail to deliver any of this it’s on you, brexit and Tory voters. You wanted this so badly and now you have it. We honestly hope we’re wrong and that you can make a success of this but if you can’t then we will forever tell you that we told you so.”

The NHS needs to be run properly before it can justify wasting any more taxpayers money.

My mate was recently ( and possibly wrongly ) diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. The following week in hospital reads like this.......we now think it's Crohns and want to remove your innards and replace them with a Stoma. Him.....holy st, I'm only 43, let's explore all avenues before resorting to that. Them.......oh sorry, we forgot to refrigerate your meds today, so we'll have to throw them out. Them, the next day.....oh, sorry, we forgot to re-order your meds, we'll have them by tomorrow...... Them, the next day, after they moved him to another bed in the same ward. Oh, sorry, we've given them to the guy who is in the bed you were in yesterday.

End of the week......we think you have a viral infection related to having chickenpox sometime in the past! You can go home.

The NHS is a fking joke, it's badly run and needs a management overhaul before thinking money is the problem. Nobody currently is looking at efficiency. There is no point in throwing public money away to help facilitate a badly run and complacent organisation.

I genuinely hope this issue will be addressed. I'd be quite happy to vote Tory next time if they can achieve something in this respect. And I 'm a Londoner.
I think the issue there is more expectations vs reality of what can be achieved

Let us assume for the sake of argument that the Tories keep all their manifesto commitments and also want to genuinely help "left behind" areas.

The first issue is anaemic economic growth which then means that there are limited public resources, even without another recession. Then we have the existing spending commitments made, particularly for the NHS, which (combined with higher capital spending) will likely mean a higher deficit without any more spending on top.

So we fast forward four and a half years and we return to many of these northern constituencies. Maybe the wage of the average local is higher (either through NLW or knock on effects). They keep a bit more of that wage in their pocket because the NI threshold has gone up. The local NHS is a little better because it had a bit more money, the local school has had a bit more money as well. Somewhere nearby a bypass that the community has been desperately needing for forty years or more has been built or is in the process of being built.

You are talking about incremental improvements not a transformative agenda.

Bojo can raise the tax take and do loads of stuff. The manifesto made the commiment not to change the main tax rates. Nothing was said about changing the thresholds however. So drop the threshold for the additional rate to £70k and use that money to bribe the new Tory voters up north.

Implement the Coalition-era boundary reforms the Lib Dems torpedoed, reducing number of MPs to 600, and making it even harder for Labour to get back in.

What an odd set of priorities you have, enforcing them might be a bit tricky. I’m particularly interested in how you would ‘encourage’ investment in deprived areas and ‘allow’ house prices to fall. You see most of the encouragement in deprived areas was/is coming from the EU, that horrid big thingy we are about to be unshackled from. Furthermore, forcing down house prices sounds like the sort of thing Jezza would come out with and then Boris would be all over it to warn the voters that their single most important asset was about to be devalued. All the other stuff about university lecturers, C4 and the BBC is fantastic, maybe Priti could sort out a few firing squads at the same time as bringing back hanging.

I would like to see Boris put an end to all this race/gender/religion/sex pref box ticking and the affirmative action diversity and inclusivity agenda. The U.K. has rejected Marxism resoundingly and has no appetite for backdoor socialism dressed up as identity politics.

It doesn’t seem to be working at all and in fact making us a more divided country.

Equal opportunity not equal outcome.

There's a few ideas about the northern economy and the source of funding on page 1.

Passive-aggressive isn't a good look for Remainers. There seems to be a fair bit of it about at the moment, understandable I guess. You guys will be feeling as badly bruised as I felt in 1997. Take heart: the Blair government wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared, life went on. The same applies to Brexit. It'll be OK.

LOL the Blair government was terrible, so many broken promises, cancelled road projects and bypasses and then left the country with Gordon Brown to make Blair look good, witgh the result that we had years of austerity to pay off all their mismanagement. Someone has a very short memory.
