With Corbyn it's a bit like he still doesn't believe his politics were rejected by the electorate. Would hardly be a surprise, since the impression you get is that he's stuck himself in one big echo chamber for 4 years.

I'm not sure there is the, erm, momentum behind Momentum or the enthusiasm of non-Member activists to pay higher full retail and join the party to affect the leadership election in the same way as happened in 2015.

The unions are not so daft as to believe it's better to be irrelevant and distant from the working man and hire another Corbyn or Corbyn-Light.

In which case, I suspect Starmer will walk it as the last remotely credible man (or woman) standing.

Do not think of the Trade Unions as One Group
They can either collectively try to become more relevant and engage with mainstream politics, or stay in the shadows and individually die out. Either way, I don't see them enjoying the next 5 years.

There is something very shifty about Sweaty Starmer...I don't think that will give them the answer they want.

Lisa Nandy has been the most believable one so far, but she is, possibly, too young?
He is seriously slimy, and a horrible orator to boot.

Labour votes in 2019 : 10.2 million

Labour votes in 2017 : 12.8 million

So 10 million believers ! Hail ! or 2.6 million fewer than 2 year ago.
Seeing as it’s 2020 I would think it’s probably about 9 million by now.

Probably of no relevance, but I caught a train at Embankment, and Sir Keir was sitting opposite, fumbling with his battered iPad. Nothing really remarkable, but I was surprised to see he was wearing shoes off a tramp. I suppose he found them to be comfy.

I see absolutely no reason why millionaire remainer lawyer Sir Keir Starmer can't lead the Labour party into the next election. It's not as if he's another stale pale male is it?
hehe

(They have no one - what a shame.)
It’s a good point. I would think the last thing a labour voter would want is him.

Got a good chance then.

The French and English have never historically been friendly to each other, something to do with past conflicts perhaps.
That’s my opinion and how I have found my experiences over the past thirty or so years.I suggest your pal keeps paying money to the French and he will be OK.
I’m married to a French lady, and her family and friends have been hugely welcoming, as has pretty much everyone else I interact with when there, with the exception of the odd stereotypical waiter.

It’s possible that the problem is you, not the French; how well do you speak their language, and how were you actually interacting with them? Was this in people’s homes, talking to them in bars, out a a mixed group for meals etc?
Agree - I’ve never had anything but a warm welcome whenever I’ve been in France.

Starmer
Long Bailey
Burgoyne for Deputy
Crayons for deputy

Not sure about others

Dan Jarvis. I think he would be genuinely good for Labour but not sure he has the powerbase to fight Momentum.

Not my politics, but I respect him far more than the current loons running the party.
Agreed.

Jarvis was in the running years ago at\round the time of Milliband but I think his wife died. He’s exactly what labour need and looks like he’s up for a complete clear out and new start.

Mr Corbyn is leading the development of better and fair Briton, one for the many not the few.

Rebecca (the rising star) Long Bailey is just another flag carrier on the long march for the Workers in the Uk.

10 million plus now believe, next time we know the papers and the BBC will be against us.
Techiedave? Is that you?
It can't be. Dave would know that Briton is singular and thus contradicts the following 7 words.
No not I I thought it was another poster from some time back we used to enjoy. Whoever he or she is they are a genius and personally I think they would make an excellent Leader of the Labour party

Jess Philips looks like she's going to stand.

If a smug look is the main criteria she'll be the odds-on favourite:

The ONLY thing Jess "I'm in touch with my constituents 'cos I'm the real deal" Phillips has going for her is that she isn't an ultra left wing nutter.
Funnily enough another esteemed poster Tony RPH ? I think has posted some cracking bits n bobs about her. At one point I think she was a target to be deselected .
Another poor quality person in a sea of poor quality people

Has it been decided if the general public will be allowed to vote in this, or is it Labour members only this time?

But they did massively drop the threshold with the £3 membership vote for Corbyn?
£3 payers weren't members. I should know, I was one of them. You did have to declare you weren't a member of any other party, but I've no idea how they would check, unless there is some sort of data sharing between the main parties.

Either way, it was for all intents and purposes open to all.

I paid 3 quid as well for the comedy factor. Next time it went up to £25 (I'm sure I read the other day) but they never asked me for that (or at least no email ever came).
I don't remember an email either. I think there was narrow window to register of just 2 days as well. I don't know how many people did.

If it's a fiver or so to vote this time I might get involved again, although I don't know enough about Keir Starmer to know if he's worth voting for.

Although in principle it's time for a woman leader I'm definitely not voting for RLB, Jess Phillips or Emily Thornberry,...I would possibly consider Yvette Cooper.

All speculation at the moment, they might just make it members only.

They need to thin this field rapidly. No more than four to go forward to the final vote or it'll be chaotic.

Best to just anoint Rebecca long stare now.
That way "the project" can be guaranteed to go foreward. Its for the good of the party you see not the many
