Posties round here were already grizzling about the hours they work, can't see the unions liking this.
I believe there’s a few million people who would be glad of the work?

But if it is popular then won't it also create some jobs?
Probably just give existing post people a bigger van.

Possibly keep existing jobs in royal mail but possibly cost post office jobs as its one less thing for the public to need to visit a post office.

We live in a small suburb of Doncaster and first lost the post office to a bee setup which was quickly closed for whatever reason.

We now have to travel for 15 minutes to a tiny village where they are hopelessly inefficient. It takes 45 minutes to collect a parcel.

I’m more likely to use the send a parcel, as I’ll use any alternative to avoid the actual post office...

If paying the postie for a parcel pick up you don't actually have to be in .

The same way with tracked delivery stuff you can leave alternate delivery instructions online for the postie you could also tell them your parcels in the garage or in the shed in the garden waiting to be picked up .

Being different companies the Royal Mail won’t give a crap about that.

I’m not sure if they are going to get the volume they hoped with this.

They might get the domestic customer but the real volume is in business and that ship sailed years ago.

Go onto Parcel Monkey and you can get your parcel picked up from your address anyway. Or have an account with a courier who will do the same.

Probably create more jobs for parcel pickups if it takes off.

No it'll just be added onto the current posties work load they'll either go into overtime ( if there still getting paid it ) or just finish on time and leave ordinary letters.

RM don't want more staff they want less , everyone who gets taken on now is on a 22 hour contract rather than the 38 hours ones they used to offer.

Trouble is until the government and RM come to some sort of conclusion as to what's happening with the uso everything's in limbo .

Won't the posties strike like a scorned superpower of asked to pick up 'heavy'objects whilst they jog about town?

If RM have any sense, they’ll pay the posties something for each pickup.

Yes it’s called a monthly salary. If you don’t like the terms find alternative employment.
At the very least it secures existing jobs and at best generates more employment opportunities.
It’s a good idea and worth exploring.

I had a medical appointment in cardiff last week and went for a walk through st David’s shopping centre, it was awful, hardly anyone was shopping at all. I can’t imagine any shop there not being in trouble. What a st time to be in business

People who take on extra responsibilities should get extra remuneration to compensate.

Clearly this will increase the amount of work they do and possibly their working hours.

It won't.

RM are placing less importance on clearing letters so if i turn around and say the delivery is going to take longer than my shift and I don't want overtime, I'll be instructed to clear the special delivery , trackers , parcel's , empty the post boxes and do what i can of the letters within time.

Fine if one day. After 5 days letters stop being delivered.

So they alternate what areas get left so nobody gets know post for a week .

According to the public all we deliver is junk mail so surely this shouldn't be a problem?

Egor, assuming you're a postie, what is the overtime rate? Is it paid after 38 hours of basic contract or after 7 and a bit per day?

Depends , i don't think there offering 38 hour contracts anymore seems to be 22 hour now.

But its paid once that days hours have been breached.

So for me anything after 5.20 today and 5pm tomorrow is overtime.

It's paid at normal hourly rate £11.62 put if you do more than 10 hours overtime you get paid less than hourly rate.

Not the worst pay, although I'd imagine the work is pretty exhausting and the organisation probably a little challenging to work for.
Plus side is, get to keep fit and active, and scope to interact with all manor of people I'd guess?
