I own a decent sized busy retail store. I have always made my policy to try to engage with customers with a bit of friendly small talk at the till, rather than just stick my hand out and take their money in silence.
I might say "Do you live locally?" or something like that.
Most customers appreciate it, but some go on for ten minutes telling me their life story and I wished I hadn't bothered.
Because we're a local shop for local people. We don't want your sort here!I might say "Do you live locally?" or something like that.

In Currys I always struggle to interact with the staff.
my wife took her brother to currys last week as his fridge freezer needed replacing. found one he liked and asked if they could get one delivered. sorry we don't have any left in stock. wife says that's ok we could wait a short time until you do. sorry we won't be getting anymore in stock. ok, could we buy the display model then, thinking there will be no problem as it's the last one in stock they won't be needing it on display. apparently no, they can't sell that one.wife heads home and they order one online.
We popped down to Currys today to get a computer. Had a rough idea of what we wanted but wanted to see them first.
Saw it, we're going to buy it...but couldn't find anyone to sell it to us! Went over to the till and told we would need to speak to someone on the shop floor.
25 minutes we spent waiting to speak to someone. Told someone would be with us soon.
Ended up leaving without buying it. Will end up getting it online most likely.
Talking about warranty at Currys. I used to work there. We were allowed to reduce the price of the product by the monthly cost of the warranty. It would get our targets and we told the customer to cancel when they got home.
What I found out later is I had reduced the price of the warranty by mistake meaning it was free forever...that didn't go down well when the found out!

2020 retailers in trouble?
All of them, as of now.
With the notable exception of large foreign online firms able to sell products local shops cannot. No doubt that will be little comfort to the local shop owners, their staff, the local councils who will inevitable suffer from lost business rates, and the national government who will have a smaller tax take, not to mention the landlords who are now facing empty properties in January.
The current Conservative government are deliberately wrecking the economy and it is a complete disgrace.

That is precisely my point. You are unable to see that you, your behaviour, your attitude, your language and social skills are part of the problem.
Not solely, there are plenty of poor retail staff, but often our behaviour dictates a certain reaction.
It’s something I’ve worked on to get benefit recently, you’d do well to look in the mirror and reflect on what might be the problem.
Your best just going in the DWP website for anything to do with benefitsNot solely, there are plenty of poor retail staff, but often our behaviour dictates a certain reaction.

Why would a government deliberately wreck the economy ?All of them, as of now.

You have eyes, you can see it all around. Why no one really knows, but the Gov friends are making a killing off this, along with big business and billionaires. They know their fortunes are protected. You’re taking utter deluded rubbish.
Of course some businesses will do well out of any situation that’s life. A hell of a lot more will do terribly. In your conspiracy how do you explain the failing big businesses? Like the ones this thread is about.
Doesn’t mean the government is complicit or deliberately exacerbating the situation

So, no answer. The question was WHY
Why do people worship something they can't see and no interaction with. unfortunately human nature is pretty random, and maybe in time we will understand, but like a murderer is judged by murdering people, we can only see the actions and wonder why?Things like allowing Supermarkets to sell stuff while local businesses close, well that is obvious, Boris hates small business.

Missed the 11 billion in contracts handed out to ex tory members and advisors i guess, mostly illegal. You’re taking utter deluded rubbish.
In America the corruption is so blatant. In the UK it's here, but more insidious.

Supermarkets have to stay open. They are the only way of supplying adequate quantities of food conveniently. To then tell people living in a free market economy that they can’t buy items that the shop sells, due to them being ‘non-essential’ and instead have to wait several weeks, is not ‘fair’ but is a stupid artificial constraint on the public.
Based on your posts, I genuinely pity you that you feel you and your values are so under attack, you see it and feel it everywhere. Boris hates small businesses because he isn’t going to constrain supermarkets from selling products they already have on the shelves? After the same policy was shown to be a disaster in Wales already? I’m sure if there were constraints put in place you’d be first in line to take a pop on that basis.
You just come across as an impractical anti government zealot who can’t think about the big picture and will just see wrong in anything.
