Well it is real to the small businesses to spunk our money to stay in business only to be shut again.

Could MP's survive with no salary for 4 months of the year and minimum support, yet they expect small businesses to do so..
Some could some couldn't I guess.

I do think that if the government suspends a business trading to protect the health of the nation, they should be compensated 100%. I wouldn't have dished out free money regardless of impact though.

Keeping themselves in the jobs they want. Plus i think Boris wants to be remembered as the modern day Winston Churchill who led us through this "conflict"

Not one just does he care that the country will be left in tatters and we'll be paying punitive taxation for decades.
No V shape recovery?

Indeed. Good story referenced here but behind a paywall. Retai group spent hundreds of thousands under guidance from the Business Secretary making their shops Covid-secure and then loaded up with £300 million of stock in anticipation of Black Friday.... frown

"The retail chief executive on the other end of the phone yesterday morning was fuming. He and his peers had spent weeks with the business secretary, Alok Sharma, discussing how to make their shops Covid-secure. He had spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on one-way systems, Perspex screens and personal protective equipment for staff. In anticipation of Black Friday, the discount extravaganza at the end of this month, he had loaded up with £300m of stock — three times the amount he would normally carry. Then he saw the front page of The Times yesterday, and the news that the government was abruptly planning to bring in a second national lockdown. Boris Johnson confirmed the story at 6.30pm: from Thursday, England will go back..."

They problem is he is trying to do business ethically and legally, we all know the Tory party only looks after companies that have no expertise in the contract awarded, were ex members or advisers, then you get 300 million plus contract easy, without actually doing all the hard work of building up a business brand and hard work.

Trying to run a business properly, is he stupid....

Yes an odd mindset, there does seem to be a sense of schadenfreude on seeing businesses go down the pain.

Is it a busy day because of the time of year or because of perceived discounts?

My take on this is the government have failes, 1) no Brexit deal after millions spent, 2) covid 1st wave aim was 5000 deaths we got over 40,000 3) protect jobs, tiered lockdown, full lock down, go to work eat out to help out close schools....still more people dead 4) hammer self employed people, ir35 create zero rights employees who are no eligible for furlough but ask them to pay 50% tax rate. 5) Open unis then lock students up make them pah 9k a year for what amounts to an online course make them pay rents and wonder why they party an spread the virus. 6) 300 deaths a day and rising buters ignore all the other illness not getting treated. 7) Sage links to members in goverment, 7k a day to consultants who fail to deliver, chancellor whos wife has a large share in consultancy and at same time he kills off freelancers 8) government advisors with bad eyesight testing it by driving...wtf.

An 80 seat majority of yes men means we are fked they will all get rich and write books of how welll they did while average person looses everything. You know the real shame is I voted for this because we had no viable alternative.

We bought a air frier today. Ordered online, pulled to to see a long queue to get in.

Then noticed the car park pick up spaces. Parked, logged in, chap brought it out 5 mins later and off we went.

Perfect
Normally I'd be quite happy to do C&C but wanted to see them in person (my last laptop I got was so small and cheaply made).

Today we went to John Lewis to have a look.

Saw two PCs we liked. First one wasn't in stock or able to order online. Fair enough.

Second one was online but only to that branch and not C&C sadly. Would have meant an hour drive not the end of the world.

They end up selling us the display model and taking 20% off which I wasn't expecting. I was expect 10% at the most.

Couldn't have been more helpful either. Plus we get the two year JL warranty still.

I'll be going back to them when we get our new TV.

They needn’t close.

Click and collect is allowed. Argos, Halfords plenty of other stores.

Try it!

Oh. Interesting. I generally just get a delivery if i'm using the likes of Argos as our nearest stores are quite some distance away.

one thing that seems overkill, is not allowing pubs to offer takeaway drinks. This really is stupid because there are loads of community pubs that could do this easily and help they survive another month.

the whole thing feels so arbitrary and was clearly always going to happen. It does make me wonder if it was engineered as uni students have been behind a lot of case increases, and if they had stayed at home maybe another lockdown wouldn't have been required, but universities would have ended up going under..
