The relationship between the Chinese state and its people is very different to those in the West, in particular.

Try telling UK citizens they must not leave their houses and see how well that goes. A bit of flue would look like a day at the races compared to burning police stations.
There would be as much danger from the population here as the virus. One whiff of no policing and it’ll be a free for all round my way.

South Korea have got major issues, it's starting to spread there dramatically.

Cases double in a day from 100 to over 200, with the expected transmission rate they could well be into the 1000's within a week.

So, when hundreds self present at surgeries or hospitals, because of scant public awareness, that can't be avoided?
Washing hands, etc has no effect on the spread of a virus?

etc etc
Washing hands is a delaying placebo IMO.
It’s the real info that’s needed on what to do if you get it such as fluids/rest/food/paracetamol or somesuch and what are the warning signs during infection when medical intervention is needed.

29 year old doctor died. Think that makes him the youngest to have died.

Figures from the John Hopkins tracker WITHOUT Hubei Province:

Confirmed cases: 14,065
Deaths: 103
Recovered: 6,774

In comparison to yesterday, 369 more confirmed cases, 4 more deaths and an increase of 632 in recovered patients.

Deaths/(Deaths plus Recovered cases) is now at 1.5% and of course each day the data becomes more statistically mature. A week ago it was 2% and has dropped every day. (Interestingly Hubei has dropped from 27% to 15% in that time and so clearly does not help statistical analysis in comparison to the mainly China without Hubei data). Of course that ignores undiagnosed cases which we are led to believe could be up to 90-95% of all cases. Not that anyone can trust the Chinese figures.
Might be worth doing this for without China ?

I wonder what % of people with it need hospitalisation. A low death rate would be good news but the UK population all needing 4 weeks off in a couple of years period ?

In an extreme I presume there’s some sort of ‘essential services’ thing where unnecessary industries or services are curtailed eg having replacement windows fitted isn’t exactly vital.

Yeah those working on the "front line" seem to get it worse than anywhere else.

Not realistic yet, as I said earlier give it a couple of months and China figures may be able to be set aside.

ION three Northern Hospitals today are ALL in discussion on how they can change use quick if needed and what their capacities are for isolation/ICU/HDU so there IS preparation going on. The difference in a week is surprising - reassuring in some ways but makes me think its becoming more expected to get real in the UK.
Our hospital made plans about 2 or 3 weeks ago so I doubt this is a new thing in the NHS this week.
Our local hospital has of last week introduced isolation pods for walk-ins with flu symptoms to be assessed and treated as appropriate. I think it’s a good idea protecting other patients and staff alike. I’m surprised there isn’t more of them in all hospitals.

There are, our local small hospital no A&E just a minor injuries unit has a fully sealed room put aside for the last two weeks although if anyone turns up and does not come in the doctors go to their car in full suits

4 weeks into an 8 Week shipping time form China where there has been a significant reduction in sailings.
I expect civil unrest when the great unwashed find they cannot get thier latest iPhone 12 as quickly as they expected.

Telling China citizens they must not leave their houses didn’t go that well either.

They had to be “persuaded” not to and even then many made a run for it.

How much longer are we going to keep trotting out that we need to wait another week to see what happens?

Wait another week

Wait another week

I’ve waited enough weeks!

There’s no empty shelves, there’s no bodies piling up, the streets aren’t full of Zombies.

I’m moving on to the next big thing.

Bring it on.

Why do you keep coming back to this thread then?

I mean this as a genuine question and not as an antagonistic remark.
