I caught the end of what I think was a WHO chap on the radio. Utterly awful update he gave saying things might get ‘messy’
Is ‘messy’ a WHO term for TFU?
“This outbreak could go in any direction. It could even be messy,” he warned. “What I’m saying is: It’s in our hands now. If we do well within the narrowing window of opportunity, we can avert any serious crisis. If we squander the opportunity, then there will be a serious problem on our hands.” - WHO Director General

"This new virus represents a tremendous public health threat," she said. "We are now taking and will continue to take unprecedented, aggressive action to reduce the impact of this virus ... on the communities in the US." - CDC Director

To be fair, the WHO chief is now being reported by Beeb at least as saying containment at tipping point in light of Iran and Lebanon occurrences. I doubt that's simple hyperbole...

Just FYI, I've reported you for trolling. So if you get a ban from this thread, that'll be why.

If you don't get a ban, please just know that I consider you a troll and would kindly request you don't respond to my posts in future.

I already posted that maybe the Iran cases were scientists from the Wuhan bioweapons lab that had been evacuated when the virus escaped. ;-)

Genuinely I think the world has perhaps at the very best 4 weeks to contain this.

I think the true picture in China is at least 10 times worse than they are reporting.

And the last thing is we really don't know if / how / when this could mutate into something far worse than it already is.

The more I think about the possible outcomes the more I just hope all blows over asap.

Impossible to trace all contacts?
Exactly!

I'm worried about this virus, both in terms of illness and on the potential impact on our society in terms of economy and potential breakdown of social order in the UK.

We only need a bit of snow or a fuel protest and it all goes to st pretty quickly here.

Let's face it, a drug dealer gets shot in Tottenham and all the tts in London start looting TV and trainer shops, imagine what will happen if the NHS is overwhelmed, curfews or quarantined are imposed and police numbers are restricted further?

Inner cities will be like Judge fking Dread.
I just mixed fuel for my chain saw and have sharpened my axe....to do some work in the garden and definitely not to kill the infected...definitely not that

19+ days no symptoms.. they're among us lol!
That's not good.

How many people have they infected in 19 days of normal life.

Spin class, yoga, fast food, coffee shop, shopping at the mall, public transport and work in an air conditioned office?
We still haven't seen much comment on how long the infectious period might be though, and whether you are significantly infectious without showing any symptoms. You'll note the UK study cited a few days ago used 3.6 days as the infectious period for their model, but it wasn't clear where they got that number from - and whether that's clinically infectious, or the calculated average period being in general circulation whilst being infectious.

It's a coronavirus. I imagine the infectious period will broadly mirror other coronavirus classified as the common cold.

My oppo in Singapore said to me work have told them to reduce the risk of infection, half of them go in Mon- Weds, the other half Thu and Fri. Which doesn't appear to be overly useful to me as there's no significant disinfection or anything beyond basic office cleaning in-between times.... What an odd decision.

Iran 13 cases 4 deaths.
To save you getting confused, if all other 9 survive it’s 30%

Strange that the so called super spreader Steve Walsh infected 11 people in the chalet however no further infections detected this far in the wider community in the ski resort?

Also no further infections from the others once back in Brighton ?

Mr Walsh didn't even infect his wife and child despite living in the same house?

So many what's and ifs?

I see Germany won’t be sending their F1 coverage team to the Vietnam F1 race in April due to the virus risk.

Authorities have asked about 6,700 people in California to isolate and monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new virus, according to the California Department of Public Health. Those individuals have been advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stay home from work or school, avoid large crowds and limit their social interactions for 14 days — the maximum incubation period of the new virus.

It's encouraging to see California taking this seriously.
