We are in a hotel in Tenerife a few km along the coast from the hotel thats locked down. Our flight is this afternoon. This is after spending some time yesterday reading the last couple of dozen pages of this thread and deciding it prudent to do a bit of supply stocking when we get home.

We have emailed the kids schools explaining the situation; it will be interesting to see what they say regarding returning to school.

It's all very well saying self isolate if you have been to X country but surly even after returning you could have infected a whole load of other people just walking off the plane and getting back to your car.

Most flights for each terminal will use the same toilets, travelator, hand rails, border gates, baggage carousel and so on. If these are not being sanitised then surely its just spreading germs around.

I was in Heathrow last week and apart from in the toilets. There was no hand sanitiser anywhere.
I’m very surprised cases aren’t simply popping up in airports all over the world to be honest.

It will be option 2 unless people are dropping dead on the street. Nobody has the balls here to call it out or stop people going to work, even suggesting working from home would be frowned upon.

It does appear that its only a matter of time until its here in bigger numbers. Judging by the amount of people openly coughing on the tube today I would suggest its probably already here, just not spoken about!
I'd think really we could edit your post to: "I would suggest its probably already here, just not a big deal."

I'm of the thinking it's highly contagious and been around the world a lot already. But people shrug it off as an annoying cold/cough/head ache unless there's another factor affecting them (e.g. pollution/smoker/generally infirm etc). Which is why despite the odd "super spreader" that's been spotted, it doesn't seem from the stats to be spreading, because it's been and gone/most people don't really notice it, so don't show up in the stats.

Ignore what they say, stay home for 10 days. Order in pizza, binge on Netflix.

I said about a week ago that I wouldn’t bother with the risk of kids and schools so totally agree with this.

But at least you won’t be infecting any more ?

There’s no perfect solution.

We don’t have facilities to properly quarantine every person that enters U.K. from a high risk area.

It appears that they have identified towns, rather than defined zones. The word “zones” is your introduction, which you’ve then used to open up a question around boundaries. I find this tedious.

Looks like my planned trip to see friends in Southern France come April will be off, or am I over reacting regards this virus. Usually fly out to Nice.

Well my flights to Cambodia, through China, have been cancelled by the airline.

Rebooked with a different airline, flying into Thailand first. Fly in 3 weeks.

The idea is to limit the spread of it where you can, not just say think oh st, I gave it to xyz, so I may as well give it to everyone else.

You're right and lack of hand sanitiser is not on, however, most people should be carrying their own.

Just having a look at the China stats in the last WHO sitrep and what I can't understand is how outside of Hubei there is (apparently) bugger all going on.

The infection was spreading unchecked in Hubei for at least a month before the lockdown and just prior to the lockdown 5 million buggered off, that's over half the population of London disappearing into the surrounding provinces (and worldwide) and the total number of cases in the rest of China would struggle to fill Halifax Town football ground.....

People returning from Northern Italy must now self isolate - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51625733

Problem is, many people are selfish and won't bother.
Matt Hancock on BBC Breakfast said:
Britons returning from northern Italy are being told to self-isolate in the UK if they show coronavirus symptoms.
That's an important distinction. Was your omission deliberate or an oversight?
Oversight, the only if showing symptoms is worse as you can (as we know) be contagious without showing symptoms.

I just can’t accept there aren’t thousands and thousands of people all over the globe who have it.
Your telling me that places like Italian towns are a hotbed as opposed to major travel hubs like London, Paris, New York etc?

No new ones in the Uk? Really?

Surely it’s a case of loads of people have it, no ones getting tested until someone gets ill and it’s confirmed and then all the people they have been in contact with are tested and they are now confirmed cases as well.

I don’t know if the above is good or bad, good I suppose?

On course for 100% recovery while the cruise has 0%, but a low death rate.

Shows me how confusing the stats are

I missed the bit about the 5m buggering off, if that detail came from China auths you could be cynical and think there were 5m infected and China ‘dealt with them’ eek
