Nicholas Parsons has died at the age of 96 after a short illness.

A very funny man.

Three lost comedy talents in there; Peter Cook, Rik Mayall and Nicholas Parsons.

Sale of the Century. Other than NP my overriding memory of that is the silver bloke on a horse that Anglia TV used. Seemed very bizarre to my young Northern eyes

I have it downloaded too. And you're right, he was a sharp as a pin.

96 is a remarkable age and, I suppose, one shouldn't feel too sad. But it's a loss all the same.

He was perfect on Just a Minute.

I remember seeing him on a comedy ketch show (of which the name escapes me) where he was a judge on a spoof talent section.

In the same vein as the Ali G interviews, the act was a setup. It was a bloke playing the drums & singing "My old man, said be an Arsenal fan..."

Not sure if Nicholas was in on it, but his face after the third line was a picture.

What a shame, a broadcasting legend.

He appeared on the Richard Herring Leicester Square podcast a year ago, despite his years he was sharp as a tack and was very funny.

Very sad news. I shall miss his wit, his forbearance of the age jibes aimed at him on Just A Minute, and his ability to carry off a cravat.

He always amazed me on JAM. His mind and wit were still razor sharp.

Agreed. He had a wonderful sense of humour. There was something about listening to him that not only amused you momentarily, but also made you feel happier.

I am sure that, as in his role in the Mr Jolly film, he could play along extremely well at being the straight, "Mr Confused and Offended" type beautifully.

Good innings and not a bad actor either.

He appeared in quite a few British B&W films in the 50/60's.

Straddled the world of light entertainment all the way back to the fagg-end of music hall,
yet never really got the TV/Film breaks that Stanley Baxter, Leslie Phillips or even Bob Monkhouse enjoyed.

As a small child I thought Nicholas Parsons was a benevolent millionaire giving out prizes on Sale of the Century.

It wasn't until later that I understood what a game show host was.

The fact that he was appreciated by viewers across many generations sums up NP
