Interesting you call it "the much-needed upgrade to Sheriffhall" and I'm not saying it's not needed (far from it) but when Sheriffhall was built they said then it coudn't be a flyover because of the geological instability of the land and the many mineworks there. So what's changed? How/why are we now hearing about solutions? I know the new town Shawfair will only increase the problem at Sherrifhall but it's not clear to me why we can now build a flyover?
I think when they said it couldn't be done, it was more about the costs of doing the work; you can solve most civil engineering problems if you have the budget; here is the link to the proposal - https://www.transport.gov.scot/media/46549/a720-sh...
It's not just Shawfair that will have a massive impact on Sheriffhall, all the growth in East Lothian (10k houses over the next ten years) was predicated on the the East Coast Mainline and the A1, which obviously feeds into the city bypass at Old Craighall, a junction that should also be grade separated.

The SNP and greens in Glasgow have balanced their budget by closing the outdoor centre at Blairvadach; that will help kids grow up healthy and with an appreciation of exercise and outdoor pursuits.
There should be some sort of fallout because of this. The staunch irony of the Greens helping close down an outdoor centre is palpable. Ditto, shouldn't the SNP be all about our 'bairns' getting to explore this (mostly) green and (mostly) pleasant land? The SNP need to either jack up taxes or bring in these sorts of austerity measures. It shows how far we've slipped into a vassal, single party state that the SNP don't attract more criticism for both their action and inaction.

A colleague in work claims his aunt is high up in the SNP, and that this is the week that the bombshell about Sturgeon's marriage and personal life will be dropped.
I have no idea if he is trustworthy enough, but he told me who aunt is by name (I wont repeat), and given who it is it would be easily verified, so I don't know why he'd lie. I'll happy stir the pot though.

My 74yo mother who doesn't exactly take an active interest in politics, and who doesn't really 'do' online asked me about this the other day. Seems the rumours have reached her retiree gossip circle, and according to her it's Judy Murray's old house that's the one in question in BoA.
When you've got everyone from journalists down to the WI bridge club talking about it it's only a matter of time before it's reported. From abroad possibly.

maybe next week - bury the news under the Salmond trial news barrage?
The pieces of this have been in place and (mostly) visible for a while now, but indeed Salmond's trial will be pivotry but not for the reasons you think, The news not breaking may be the concession given for Nicola to be able to step down with her reputation intact. The thicko Nationalists would see a Salmond acquittal as a victory for them against the establishment, but the allegations against him and the enquiry/civil case/criminal charges have really always been about an internal battle in the SNP as to who could dish the most dirt about whom.
A lot of media attention is being given to the Angus Robertson versus Joanna Cherry for candidacy selection in Edinburgh and rightly so because that is where the battle lines are drawn - Robertson is a Sturgeonite and Cherry is the Salmondista and the contest for the future party leadership is now between those two. Regardless of the result of the Salmond case Sturgeon's position will become untenable.

I’ve just checked the Court page for upcoming trials....I think this thread is going to be very busy next week!
in what way ? i didnt think we could comment on a ongoing trial The bigger issue is, how the hell are they going to find 15 unbiased jurors??? I live close to Edinburgh and I’ve yet to meet a single person who doesn’t have a strong opinion on Salmond.

The SNP pushed for the bridge to be built. They organised the funding, planning permission, etc.
They then, presumably, left the design and the building and the project management to the teams of subject matter experts. Sturgeon or Salmond were probably pictured with a spade making the first dig into the grind but you know that’s for the cameras and they didn’t actually stay and build the bridge themselves, right?
So they can take the glory if it goes well, but when it all goes tits up it's the engineers fault? They then, presumably, left the design and the building and the project management to the teams of subject matter experts. The entire online, print, and broadcast media is going to be commenting on every minute detail of every (alleged) sex offence for as long as the trial goes on for. Which is going to be fking great for the union. Thanks Alex.

This may be the greatest bit of irony in all political history as the SNP potentially puts pay to itself together with any hope of independence!Which is going to be fking great for the union. Thanks Alex.

I have, however, taken the precaution of ordering a large delivery of popcorn and look forward to following this thread next week
