Danny Cipriani expresses his grief over the death of Caroline Flack.

An ex-boyfriend takes to social media to show his sorrow over someone who complained she was hounded on social media.

No irony then?

Edited by The Mad Monk on Saturday 22 February 08:45
Fecking been all over the BBC this morning. On 3-4 times in the last hour.

Maybe it's just me but if I had lost a loved one, I would be grieving about it quietly with some dignity, not wailing on national TV. Especially when i am blaming "hounding by the media"

I must be so out of touch.
Some of the background might be that Cips posted a short tweet disparaging the media's ability to lie and encourage bullying and his sorrow at her passing (an ex of his). Immediately some ex-talksport dickwad threw a load of abuse at him, this will have been seen by hundreds of thousands. Caroline called him shortly before killing herself, he missed the call as he was on the field.

Because people like you find it noteworthy enough to spend your free time discussing it on the internet.

Everything the media runs is driven by data. If you don't like a topic then don't click on the articles, share them, comment on them, or even write about them in general on PH or anywhere else.

Clicking something and sharing or commenting "this is a lot of rubbish, nobody wants to see this" is only fuelling another article like it tomorrow.

This seems to go over a hell of a lot of people’s heads. It’s a bit like complaining all you have is turnips, despite the fact you bought them all.

That is childish.

I can't remember her relationship with Harry Styles, but if a 32 year old guy went out with a 17 year old girl it would draw criticism.
I can only think it's a good thing that an adult male cannot remember that entirely unimportant fact about someone else he has no connection to (unless you do).

Many things draw criticism. Not all criticism is warranted.

Age is a funny thing. I dated a 19 year old for 6 months when I was 29 (and a 20 year old for a year when I was 30.) I remember no criticism and nobody called me a "nonce" within my earshot. (she wouldn't have known what it meant, being Canadian, I expect, so might have heard it and not remarked on it, but I doubt it as I'm not a "public figure" who everyone thinks is public property and a free target for scorn and derision.

Flack was called a nonce by a few people on Twitter when she was dating Styles. She was not at any time committing a paedophile offence.

Would/should my situation have been judged differently had my relationship begun 2 years earlier? Should the age of consent be raised accordingly?
There is a very well know rule for this; half your age plus 7 is the creepy limit.

Caroline would be 16+7=23 minimum.
You would be 15+7=22.

Congrats smile
AT 31 I dated a 19 year old for 6 months, and at 35 a 21 year old for a similar period (but more casual)

In both instances they were a great thrill, but hardly compatible life partners, both at very different chapters of their lives to where I was.

If CF and HS had fun, and I sense he still admired her, then good on them both.

Should the whole news bulletin be changed every 20 minutes? As a radio-addict my experience is that doesn't really happen.

Most people on watch in a 20 min cycle unless something is unfolding live.

How did their family feel? Were they totally comfortable?

Have a little look to Harry Styles at 17. He didn't even look 17. There's still a good difference between 17,19 and 21.

I think you miss the point of a discussion forum my friend. If the only people allowed to comment on a "news" item were those that though it was great, the world would be a very boring place.

So because I have had enough of Cips moaning about his missus on TV, there is something wrong with me mentioning it on a thread about the subject. Hmmm OK pal. rolleyes you do realise that is how you find out other peoples opinions on things, yes?

As for turnips... WTF?. The closest analogy to that load of tosh would be that I filmed the piece. I can assure you i didnt

I'm sure we all know that you don't give honest feedback until a relationship is over. Even I'm surprised when I've had a split when family members and friends come back with opinions they've kept quiet.

Ask dads if they would be happy if their immature 17 daughter started going out with a 32 year old. I'd confidentially bet that a high percentage wouldn't be amused about it.

A 32 year old has little in common with a 17 year old. The maturity difference is huge. He even looked like a 14 year old boy back then.

Keith Lemon nailed it beautifully on Celebrity Juice, when she was a guest. 'Caroline, you're going to have a pretty crappy bonfire night' Her, 'why's that?!' KL, 'because your boyfriend's not even old enough to buy sparklers'

You’re right. I forgot about that small niche of people who have a rolling news channel on in the background of their workplace.

Let’s have a no news repeat work day for news channels, like some radio stations do with songs.

Or maybe #prayforthosewebackgroundnews

In fairness, he does go back a long way with her. Didn't her career take off being on Bo Selecta?

Yes she was Bubbles in his Michael Jackson sketches, to be honest that's what I know her most for!

It's an interesting one with Leigh Francis, as Bo Selecta was as far as 'be kind' as possible, some of it was downright nasty (I was a big fan BTW) but then we get into the whole what comedy is acceptable debate which I don't think is for this thread.
