And if you're Polish and want work, would you go to Germany where you can simply drive there and look for a job, or would you apply to be in the UK,
Why do they have to be from Poland?

Twas an example, they could be from anywhere. But the point still stands that even if they can legally come here, adding paperwork and complexity means they are less likely to.

Exactly this. Wages of particularly 'unskilled' people have been kept artificially low for years as a result of cheap euro labor that can be abused without repercussion. About time it was sorted out.

Gaps will be filled and the show will go on... happy to bet 50p on it.
So who will fill the gaps? Our great Home Secretary seems to be suggested the elderly, have you spoken to them about the great opportunities picking fruit or wiping each others bums.

Hopefully the elderly gammon who voted to leave and are most reliant on care from Europeans spend more time sitting in their own st than they previously would have had to

What a great metaphor for Brexit
How well that reflects on you.

I wish you a lovely day.
It reflects his general level of bigotry.

The policy is successful because brexit supporters will love it. Whether it will have longer term negative consequences does not matter.
Those Brexit supporters will soon be complaining about something else and that will be the very things this policy harms.... NHS as one example.

You claim to know what Brexit supporters think. Are you telepathic?

About 70% of migrants from Europe to the UK since 2004 would not meet the criteria for the new requirements.

That is a huge number of jobs which British people will have to fill over time.

People from outside the EU can't simply drive to Germany so your point only applies to EU workers.

Don’t need to be telepathic, brexiteers are like vegans. They’ll tell you frequently and loudly....

Highest employment rate ever and will you be willing to spend more per meal or per night to stay in a hotel?
Some will be moaning “this is not what we voted for” soon enough.

It's probably good for care workers, construction staff, and other industries where there will be a shortage of labour, and hence wages for them will go up. Flipside to that is that we'll pay a lot more for these services, and taxes might go up to pay for expensive (but worth it) careworkers.

Also means my kids will probably be able to get a part time Saturday job in retail like I had when I was young. Not a bad thing really.

Once this nationalist immigration ideology kicks in, UK workers will demand artificially higher and higher wages. The result will be spiralling costs for hospitality, food, construction and especially care for the unwell and elderly. I wonder who will get the blame for these anticipated spiralling increased costs by those that gleefully voted for this regime?

Given that employmeent is at an all-time high WHO will fill the gaps?

In terms of wages being kept "artificially low" - it could be argued that the minimum wage has made wages artificially high

This is brilliant for us. We are struggling to recruit enough skilled/semi-skilled immigrants into Germany, so anything that puts people off going to the UK will be great for us.

I can't believe you are knee-capping your own economy like this.

Fingers crossed for a Non Free Trade Brexit now, to really cripple your industries.

But the total failure to grasp that there is no huge pool of low skilled, unemployed labour in the UK to fill those jobs is concerning.

Agriculture and food processing relies hugely on cheap labour for often hard and difficult jobs, and many of those businesses will simply go out of business without the right staff. No matter how many exemptions there are, the added complexity and paperwork means Europeans will go and work in other countries, rather than coming here, even if they are legally allowed to. To believe that students are going to spend all their summer's cutting up carcasses in a meat processing plant is a complete joke, and to think that these jobs can simply be done by robots is equally laughable.

This policy is like everything else which has ever come out of Boris, it's what people want to hear without any consideration of the consequences. For the party of business this decisions seems to be very much anti business.
Perhaps it is Cummings way of proving this policy is stupid by showing the nation the consequences?

Is it bigotry to want people to suffer the consequences of their actions? I only specified those who were all in favour of shooting themselves in the foot to actually find it causes pain and discomfort.

I hope all of those who weren't in favour of shooting themselves in the foot are able to continue with their lives with as little discomfort as possible! Certainly not bigoted towards all elderly people, just elderly gammon!
