If that scope were narrowed then fewer resources would be less thinly spread.
Here's such a proposal:

Social media content should not be investigated by the police unless there is a genuine threat of, or incitement to violence.
I'm sure every police officer would welcome that.
Exactly how we once treated domestics

Two years? 12 years on foot as a Neighbourhood and endless months whilst on core shift whilst not in the area car or general patrol cars. The value of a regular, well informed foot patrol cant be measured as you dont know what would have occurred had they not been out and about..and yes. The public did feel reassured.
You are a legend. A true inspiration. A real hero.

12 years on foot patrol ? Who did you rub up the wrong way ? They could have at least got you a bike. wink
Not a bit, I applied for the job after 15 yrs on response. Kept me more flexible hours wise for PSU and footy spotting, plus did plenty y of area car and panda car cover. Ooooh and I took a controllers course..got my PNC ticket on the back of that. Yes I also had a peddly bike. Yes foot patrols were appreciated and expected by the public back then so can speak about the value of foot patrols.

In that case, there really is something fundamentally wrong; if 80% of those incidents are non crime, one must question whether they are all proper police responsibilities, and as for lots of new laws; exactly what purpose do these laws serve? police officers don't have control over this

Whether the reasons are poorer quality of recruits, poor management, misplaced responsibilties, poor use of resources, a mixture of those and / or other causes, the fact is that the police service is no longer fit for purpose, because its prime purpose is the prevention of crime, and it doesn't.
When was "it" last successful in this endeavour, would you say?
