Perhaps this should go in the Council thread but I've been suffering with various aches and have tried loads of chairs, sofas etc culminating in a Stressless recliner that was possibly the worst of the lot.

Thinking about it the only time I can spend an hour+ in a chair without discomfort, is in a car.

So what car seat should I use ?

Anyone done similar ?

Range Rover
Easy to hook up to get all the electrical adjustments (controls are on the seat!) to work off a basic 12v supply as well. smile

Nothing will blend in, huge leather sofas and chairs in there currently.

A quick look on ebay and obviously passenger front stands out as being the least worn, most adjustable type although plenty of MPV rear seats too.

Armrests would be handy although I could build some, adjustable lumber would be nice.

Sounds like you're trying to find a chair to fit your back rather than getting your back fixed. Osteopath?

First-generation Volvo S60. It's not going to look attractive but the best seats I've ever known in a car, by quite some margin. Plus the propensity of early S60 autoboxes to grenade themselves at a young age means a good chance of finding one in a scrapyard.

The question that answers your question goes like this;

‘Of all the cars seats you have sat on, which was the most comfortable?’
I find the Recaro LS to be ergonomically perfect.

I have one, she solves it when it's constantly painful, no one can fix it so that it's never painful

Land Rover are well known for having the comfiest seats.
I once towed a caravan from the South of Spain to the Midlands in two days in a 300Tdi Disco. Never felt a twinge.

Haven't done anything with a car seat in the lounge room but have a neck/shoulder/back issue and could never find a comfortable chair.

I have just ordered a Fritz Hansen Ro Chair which isn't cheap but is the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in. For me it comes down to having something which is high backed and relatively vertical so I don't bend my neck forward to watch TV etc.

Maybe an (expensive) alternative if you can find one to try out.

I have a couple of heated electric Recaros from an e34 5 series in the garage, bit scruffy but free to a good home.

Same with SAAB - All the control circuits, ECU etc is built into the bottom of the seat - easy to power with a cheap LiPo hobby battery.

I have some 9-5 ventilated cream leather seats I use in the garden in summer & would recommend. The ventilated option works well on these & makes them nice to relax on, & the memory function still works on the drivers seat so 1 button press from seating > sun lounger biggrin

^ this, you can get captain seats from motor homes & commercial vehicles that have armrests, i've certainly recovered one from a coachbuilt VW which had at least 1 if not double armrests
