Hi all

We're at the early stages of adding a mainly-glass extension to the rear of our house.

We have architects drawings, just about to submit planning and need to find suppliers for the glass elements of the structure.

It will be glass-roofed with three double doors. Floor plan is 4m x 10m. We're looking at heat-retaining and self-cleaning glass for the roof.

Does anyone have any first-hand experience of suppliers/manufacturers that they could recommend? We've had two quotes already but they are some way apart - and these are just companies that my wife has found on the the internet.

Thanks in advance.

What spec. (U-values) has your architect specified for the glass?

Note that 'he doesn't know yet' is very much the wrong answer..

Hi Equus

The garden is north facing so the structure won't exactly be bathed in sunlight all day if the sun every returns!

Pilkington Active Blue has been recommended - this has a u value of 1.0.

Where are you based? I can recommend someone in the South East.

I've been looking at exactly the same idea to replace an existing conservatory with a glass rear extension with glass roof.
Spoke to a company on Harrogate Road in Leeds who I would avoid like the plague (no name / shame)
I eventually chose a more local company to me in the West Midlands;

https://spectrumarchitectural.com/solarlux-glass-e...

Very good, no association but pleased with the abilities, prices and flexibility. They are selling Solarlux Winter Garden but there are other dealers around the country.

Things are delayed at the moment due to other issues but not the fault of the company

We are based in Wiltshire - so this side of London would be fine.

You might try IQ Glass in Bucks.

Be aware (as your Architect should have already warned you) that you will be limited by trade-off calculations or SAP calcs, unless you're designing the extension as a conservatory (thermally isolated from the main part of the house).

Hi Equus

IQ are one of the quotes we've already had - albeit the more expensive of the two, but not ridiculously so, and looks to be a quality product/service. Have you worked with them on multiple projects?
