Hey everyone,

Definitely a first world problems, I had my C63 Coupe for about two months now and honestly I am a bit disappointed.
Unless I drive it like a complete yobo, going sideways and seriously going past speed limit (private roads smile) it doesn't make me giggle or even put smile on my face.

I had PFL RS3 8v before the C63 and honestly it felt more fun, had more character. I enjoyed the 5 cylinder more than a V8, the sound my RS3 produced, the pops and bangs just made me smile and under load it felt more special. AMG was supposed to be an upgrade but it feels like I haven't fully connected with it and it really hasn't put smile on my face or make me giggle.

It feels as the car comes out of its shell at speed that is unreasonable, whilst I could just drive around city in the RS3 doing the speed limit and just giggle as it felt special, I could be asbo without doing any dangerous stuff.

I started catching myself back on autotrader looking at RS3s.

Am I overexaggerating or did anyone else experience similar?

You should have bought the W204 6.2 NA C63.

Whilst I haven’t driven those cars, I had a sort of similar thing with my bikes.

My 54hp auto gearbox bike was so quick off the line and nimble I loved driving it and especially round town. My 180hp manual sports bike was a pain in the ass round town and frankly boring unless you opened the throttle up post 50mph which is when it came into its own and would rocket you into silly speed within seconds.

I suspect the RS3 is a hard one to beat. But depending on your circumstances I’d say give it 6 months to a year and enjoy the Merc for what it is. A comfortable sleeper that blends in most of the time and can go a bit mental when you really want it to. You can go back to an RS3 or something else but it doesn’t sound like you’ll bother with a C63 or similar again so may as well get what you can out of the experience.

Should have bought the 6.2 C63...people were trading those in because they had a feeling they’d die if they kept it any longer. Absolute animal of a car.

I know what you mean though, I had a loan of a new E63 and it was a bit lifeless and tame for what it should be.

I wonder if a M2 would have worked better?

Did you not drive the Merc before changing?

These seem like fairly fundamental issues you've highlighted.

Others here have always said it's a one trick pony.

I haven't driven either, but all of the v8 turbo'd cars i've tried have left me really cold. The power delivery is a little one dimensional - all torque, not a lot of character. Once they're up to speed, they feel quite uber-diesely.

That said, the 6.2 C63 was one of the most disappointing cars i've ever driven.

Totally agree. I had a W204 Coupe. Best car I've ever owned. I would never get the W205. I currently daily drive my M6 Gran coupe and miss my C63 every day.

I test drove a W204 C63 and it was way less aggressive than I assumed it would be, and didn't feel too scary to drive. Actually a really, nice smooth car to drive. The M4 (which I ended up buying) felt way faster and more 'sporting', so could be worth a look in OP? They're worth about 50p now, too!. However I do think the W204 would have been a more satisfying car to own over time.

You chose the wrong Merc.
W123 is always the answer, except when you can locate and pay for a T80

For it to be less fun than an RS3, which I've heard plenty of people call boring, it must totally suck

I think the C63 is such a good car and fun to drive far more exciting than the RS3. The thing is an RS3 you can just point and blast in any direction and it goes whereas a C63 actually can really bite you. Learn the C63 a bit more and I am sure it will reward.

If not drop me a PM as if you have a black C63 or even better a C63S I need one for a customer.

I know the feeling, I went from an S3 to a Cayman S and the EA888 was a pretty dull power plant compared with the F6. That made all the difference, especially after I added a Remus to the Porsche as the Engine allows me to enjoy the car at any speed now. The S3 had to be ragged to get any thrills but the Porsche sounds epic even at 30 mph which makes it fun just to cruise. I would consider an RS3 next for that engine.

What made the RS3 feel special? I haven't a lot of experience of them, but they're very grippy and very quick - isn't that what they're about? I actually thought of them as more of a one trick pony than the C63.

Might be relevant, might not... I didn't like my M4 for the first 3 or 4 months. It was quick, and the handling was entertaining, but as a package it was just missing something. Add another 4 months and I'm really enjoying it. I think the wet and cold spells have helped me better understand how it behaves and that's translating to more fun when its dry and the grip levels are back up.

Yup, I miss mine. That wonderful V8 burble made every journey fun, even popping to the shops. Lovely hydraulic steering, great seats. Such a wonderful GT too. Quite a few W205 owners have come back to them.

Yes, I've often thought this when comparing cars. On-paper specs don't tell the whole story. I think people commenting on social media and forums having never driven the cars and only read the on-paper specs and looked at photos doesn't help smile

I changed from an RS4 in to a C63S and would never look back, boring is not a word I would ever use to describe it.
After 5 years of the Audi and almost a couple with the Merc it is a night and day improvement.

So much this across the board. People read a review or look at a spec sheet and decide what is 'best' based on other peoples' opinions or even less, numbers on a page.

You see it on here "Car X is so dull"... Checks garage - Diesel Renault Scenic.

The only answer is an extended test drive in as many things as you can.
