Why do you think it's all made up?
It’s an extremely serious matter, rape, abduction. It just seems odd not to go to the police but instead to announce it on Instagram. There are some people who chose not to seek a prosecution, I accept that but then why announce it to all.
Do the police have a duty to now investigate?
Someone better versed in these things could perhaps say.

As for announcing it publicly again not really odd, as someone who was in the public eye they can raise issues regular people can't.
She might well go to the police later on, there's no set order in how to deal with this sort of thing.

Some men like to take the 0.00000001% of allegations that turn out to be false and then use that to denounce every allegation that's made. There is a word for it beginning with M and ending in Y.

I’d just like to register my astonishment at how this discussion has played out. Quite amazed how many have solved the crime, or decided it’s a work of fiction, drifted onto another case and got that completely wrong, or decided that celebrities are basically just prostitutes and deserve all they get.
Quite astonishing how some people think.
Unfortunately it’s pretty much nailed on that it would have turned out this way on this forumQuite astonishing how some people think.

True, but at least he hasn't suggested she's making it all up for publicity.
No, he's left that to others Edited by stuartmmcfc on Wednesday 26th February 19:42

I believe her partner at the time was a Welsh international rugby player so it could get interesting. According to my missus who grew up not far from Nethyn so naturally knows all the Duffy gossip, the accepted story was that it was their split which caused her to become a recluse and brought on her depression.
Mike Phillips you mean a certain Welsh number9?Edited by jurbie on Wednesday 26th February 17:39

The thing I can't work out is if your mother or sister told you that this had happened to them at some point in the past how many of the people on this thread would say "Sorry Mum I don't believe you".
I don't get what happens to someone to make them think like this
The number of women who cry wolf over a rape charge is minuscule (and those who do must be prosecuted). However for a girl or lady to come forward and say that they were raped takes a huge amount of strength and courage. It’s a sad state of affairs that there is a tiny % of successful individuals who sexually assault are charged and are found guilty in court. I don't get what happens to someone to make them think like this
It’s also the fear / shame / ... that victims have to stand in court and go through the trauma again & even then it might result in nothing.

Why is it that whenever there's a story in the media of a woman having been raped, people accuse her of having made it up for attention.
Can anyone give me an example of a case where a woman has been raped and then found a way to profit off the resulting media attention/build a career? I'm genuinely curious.
