Even if they're just having a PCR due to being a contact?

Both schools my three go to are saying PCR and isolate if they have symptoms, but if they're a contact of someone with covid they do daily LFTs and get a PCR to be sure but can continue to come to school.

Our school ask that they are kept away until PCR result comes back.
When son-in-law tested positive they were told it was up to them whether the kids went in or not pending their test results. Daughter kept them off until they came back negative (so missed one day).

Other granddaughter goes to a private school and they've insisted kids are kept off if anyone in the house tests positive - been a bit of a nightmare for some families with mutliple children who've been hit at different times as there seems to have been a steady number of infections in the school all term.

Army of ex-teachers to come out of retirement to help keep schools open during Covid omicron wave

Retirees to go back to the classroom in a bid to keep lessons going in January, with staff likely to be off sick as cases rise
By Camilla Turner, Education Editor 16 December 2021 • 7:00pm - Daily Telegraph -

An army of retired teachers will be recruited by the Government in an attempt to keep schools open in January, the Education Secretary has announced.

Nadhim Zahawi will launch a major campaign in the coming days aimed at encouraging former school staff to sign up as supply teachers.

It comes amid mounting concern in Whitehall that the number of teachers forced into isolation in January due to omicron could lead to entire year groups being sent home, or even school closures.

In a letter to headteachers, Mr Zahawi said he intends to “boost capacity” of supply teachers, so that schools can plug gaps in timetables with external staff to keep children in the classroom.

Obviously all the elderly & vulnerable retirees will be keen to return to the most infection rich environment available....
All the teachers I know want to get out of the profession not get back in to it! They’d have to pay bloody good money to get them back then that would upset the apple cart with the regular teachers.

Never going to happen.

This makes me laugh! I’m a member of a FB group of U.K. teachers who have left the profession, their responses to the above were as you’d expect. biggrin

In Scotland teachers have now been classified as “Critical National Infrastructure Workers”.
The consequence of this definition, which applies elsewhere and is not specific to schools, is that in some circumstances teachers may be exempted from "self-isolation" rules.
The EIS Union is not impressed …

In Wales they said teachers weren't key workers so couldn't send their own kids to school in lockdown!

Zero chance of that happening.
And the DBS system is st slow too.
My wife had her first DBS check last month and it took 5 days.
2-5 weeks normally….it’s the police that take the longest to do checks.

Stumbled through to the end of term.

Around 10% of staff of with Covid, aonother 10% isolating for same reason.

46 kids off with Covid today, another 37 waiting for PCR. Attendance 88% today.

All students have been sent home today with paper versions of online logins, also texted and emailed to parents.

Hopefully we'll be back on the 4th. Said that last year though.

Depends if it gets picked up (they do 10%) for one of the police inspections, in which case it'll end up at the bottom of a pile on someone's inbox and you can wait for anything from 3 weeks to 3 months. If not, 1-2 weeks.

Can I ask whereabouts you are? Just curious as we had a contact last week but otherwise doesn't seem to bad down here in Poole.

So, anyone else back on the old remote teaching carousel tomorrow?

Wind beats pandemic.

Yep. Despite whole catchment area being in "Amber" and not "Red".

I'm used to it now though, wokring from home for a year plus and for the forseable future.

Still, kids know I'm on teams and regularly send me challenges to relieve the boredom and vice versa.

I did think that. Saving grace is that one offs don’t automatically have to have as much structure in place.

Rather pleased having an unexpected day off. As a caretaker I was expecting to open up at 7:00 this morning but last night the boss declared the school closed to all staff and pupils. I’d work from home if I could, but there aren’t any bogs to unblock, graffiti to clean up, footballs on the roof to get down or PPE to restock at home.

Ah well, day off it is then (although it is a shame as we’ve got quite a bit planned for half term next week and it would have been nice to get ahead of it today with no-one in, especially as it would have been perfectly safe to go in and open up at 7:00 this morning). I’m in Exmouth and the school’s just outside Exeter.
