Well the wests current favourite pet is taking them on in hand to hand combat up on a mountain ridge for some reason. Not mentioned anywhere in these forums.
Makes you wonder who owns this UK centric organ of chat.
Still no worries its thousands of miles away....

I think you've got your tinfoil hat screwed on a little too tight.

UK media is being remarkably coy about the escalating tensions with China - when they've spent the last decade painting everyone as either good guys or bad guys, the complexity of our relationship with the East seems to be beyond them. Rather like their relationship with globalisation, shades of grey seem to defeat them.

The india / China confrontation has been rumbling in for decades.

I think it has caught the mood a little in terms of "ooh, look what else China are up to".

But China's current list of territorial expansion and nationalist agenda is not getting much attention in the uk as we're too busy beating ourselves up for doing the same things a hundred+ years ago.

Same with N korea..who have just blown up a building...but Boris won question time and teachers are all militant for not wanting to risk spreading a disease so it gets no airtime.

they both need to sit down like adults and work this out. Fighting over uninhabitable bits of the globe is silly.
You pity the citizens of both countries as they have the worst of leadership all inspired by the trump clown.
Lucky brazil doesnt border them as it would be the full house of tts.

China is doubling, and then trebling down on it's bad image.

They don't care because a.) the ROW is not critical to their mission and b.) it is highly debatable whether they are conceptually able to understand it from the POV of being within a state-controlled bubble.

It's quite a serious issue. Certianly it makes and utter joke of Chinese involvement in ventures of national importance; communications, power generation etc. etc. in the West.

It's also a huge issue for the many ROW firms whose sole plan for procurement was "China because cheap". This will bite many on the arse.

I think more seriously, the massive rise of globalisation has meant that virtually every Western nation is heavily dependent on China both for manufacture and infrastructure, but also for deeply embedded foreign investment.

They can act how they want because we simply cannot afford to sanction them in any meaningful manner.

Yet, but you already see how things are altering in that regard, and strategically, these are early days yet.

Agree with your post but don't underestimate the power of the consumer. A tiny change, like forcing e commerce platforms to list and allow search by country of origin could make a huge difference.

I've been trying to avoid buying Chinese products since the whole outbreak started.

However I've been buying various tools and electrical goods etc the past few weeks to make lockdown more bearable and to get certain jobs done. In a lot of cases I've tried to order what I think are non Chinese makes and in some cases have paid a bit extra for this. Half the time after doing this, the box turns up and it still says Made in China on it, so it seems fairly pointless, especially when you've paid more than you needed to for no reason. I think it should be mandated that all products have their country of origin available prior to the point of sale.
