Seems fair and balanced.

I’m sure I’m repeating myself, but we really need to stop using them for any major projects / investment / technology / business dealings. Yeah obviously we still need their cheap crap that’s made there, and if Apple etc want to make stuff for consumers there fair enough. But no country / govt stuff. We should disengage with them. If they’re are offering something at a price others can’t match, there’s a reason and we’ll ‘pay’ for it later. It’s like dealing with a loan shark.

We don’t need their cheap crap either. There are other cheaper and more easily policed countries in that area.

If consumers want it, their cheap tat can be sourced from other countries. Might take a while but it’s doable.

Very much this, I said right at the beginning of this thread that it could take a generation to disentangle ourselves from them, but we can do it if we so wish and I think we should. It's no good moaning about the oppressed minorities and then buying the normal crap from Alibaba or similar. Unfortunately the collateral damage in the medium term will be the Chinese populace who are not totally to blame for the actions of their leadership, however it is only them that can ultimately change the course of the country.
Going forward if many countries change their attitude then China will be in a spot of bother. They have a population that has started to expect a better standard of living (quite rightly) off of the back of pumping out this crap. If graduates can no longer find jobs in China and are not as welcome elsewhere then I can imagine the regime coming under growing pressure. However it is a fine tightrope, the last thing the region needs is China going "hot" in a move to take it's populace's eyes off of the real problem. China's expansionist policy may look closer to home if they cannot "buy" their way into Africa etc.

If you look at it , both countries are trying to destabilise the other

There was an interesting video about the current economic state of China a couple of weeks ago, it's not looking good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuAAGEnCqnU

Not sure if it's already been mentioned already in the thread but the EU are now applying tariffs to certain Chinese exports

Bloomberg said:
EU Challenges China’s Trade Expansion With Landmark Tariff

The European Union fired a warning shot at China over its global trade ambitions with an unprecedented tariff decision to counter Chinese subsidies to exporters.

For the first time, the EU on Monday took aim at alleged market-distorting aid granted by a country to exporters located in another state. To date, such European duties have focused only on subsidies provided by the country where the exporters are based.

Aside from urban inequality, talking about China as one nation forgets the scale of the place. A bit like comparing jobs and income in Northern Europe, to North Africa.

The West has been, IMHO, too blind to the damage of China's subsidised export policy. What the EU does is less important than the USA, which represents a far, far higher proportion of Chinese exports.

It’s a funny old world
China exported Covid to the world, in a similar manner to infected sheep being launched into cities under siege, in medieval times
They seek to benefit from this. Accident or a happy consequence for the Chinese rulers?
Our answer. Get everyone on a bike, as in 1970s China!

Chinese economy is inextricably linked to the west, as our economies tank so does their export market

Their domestic market is large but generally poor or very poor with GDP per capita multiples below western countries & totally insufficient to continue the explosive growth they have seen in the last 30 years

Their growth & other economic figures are also inflated thanks to the SOEs (State Owned/Operated Enterprises). China is an economic powerhouse but its arguably built on pretty dubious foundations. All is not as rosy in the Chinese economy as they would like us to believe IMO

Surprising 'exposé by the BBC last night on Panorama about China's Coronavirus coverup, only a few months too late but it's nice to see the BBC finally using some critical thought and not just parroting PR disguised as news reports.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000k4dq/pan...

Held no punches with the WHO being in China's pocket, their spokesman was squirming with some of the questions.

Having been in an industry that was "investigated" by Panorama. I would take that with a whole load of salt, its most likely BS that people want to hear rather than actual facts.

And I'm sure that the UK and USA definitely doesn't do the same. wink

Didn't Snowdon's files show some of the NSAs key capabilities and describe similar databases?
