The only thing i can fault the Gov NOT doing is checking incoming pax at airports

I get concerned at the amount of crowding on the tube and TfL seem to be doing little about it,
Are the Train drivers actually falling like flies, are snowfakes and just being cautious, or using it a great excuse for some additional paid leave?

I don't think that the government wants to shut down the London economy, they seem to be commissioning large field hospitals and mortuaries instead, rightly or wrongly.
Business can be run remotely these days so there is little excuse for allowing the tubes to be rammed everyday. Those being made to go into London are being put at risk by the government and their employers.

All well and good building large new hospitals and mortuaries for what, to put the city workers in?

Pretty accurate, never seen so many runners & cyclists! Taking the government sanctioned exercise
Gyms are shut, weather getting better. To be expected really.
People are not thinking this through though in the longer term, I don't think.
I am all for keeping in shape, and recreational sport is great, BUT, there's another way of looking at this now. Food is getting more difficult to get hold off and this will only get worse IMO, the longer this goes on. So maybe cut the "rations" down, and recuce activity, don't go on a 1500 calorie bike ride. We have a certain amount of grub in the country, need to think about making it last as long as possible, maybe.
IN France, with the lockdown needing paperwork to go out, they have been arresting cyclists who have bike ride paperwork but who they find 75 miles away from their homes. fking idiots, the idea is to stay local and not spread stuff about. They're too selfish to see it though.

Why hasn't London been shut down yet as it has a third of UK cases, and are expecting a tsunami of new cases in the next three weeks.
I couldn't agree more and scratching my head as to why this hasn't happened.

Only Key workers that are helping in the fight against this Virus should be allowed entry to the City.
I will just keep cutting a pasting this in response to statements like this - You may be right but, on balance, the people with all the information are more likely to be correct.

What other options have you considered?
For how long should it be imposed?
What resources will it take?
What collateral impact will there be?
How long can it be sustained?
Why now?
How many will die if we do nothing?
How many will die if we do it tomorrow, ?
How many will die if we do it in 5 days?
When should it be reviewed?
How will we know if it's working?
What do we do if it isn't working?
How do you know this?
Who should be exempt?
What exceptions should there be?
What is the contingency if people don't comply?
If you are wrong, will you take responsibility for the additional deaths?

Easy to assert hard to explain. The government advisers will have answers to those questions.

No, it isn't.

Between you and that other numerically illiterate halfwit on the thread (oh, the turncoating Frank Spencer, mustn't forget him), you're wallowing in and trying to spread an unnecessary panic.

It's very unhelpful.

A company I know is now closed. Staff are on compulsory holiday (taken from your number of days per year!) The employer wont approach the Government for furlough status until next week. There is no guarantee you get furlough status. eg Marks & Spencer were refused it

Was sold to staff as "we are protecting your jobs and doing this means no redundancies" No alternatives to this plan are allowed (Company is a multi million household name)

This situation has unfortunately shown that a lot of employers really don't give a st about their staff and will look out for themselves first. Also that a lot of companies are literally clueless when it comes to surprise events. And that their top level directors etc cant make good decisions under pressure!
I think that is unfair on the vast majority of employers. Many have had to make very difficult decisions, in what are extremely uncertain times. Businesses need protecting otherwise many won't exist in a few months. No one wants to make these difficult decisions. It does not help that many employees have an attitude that the management are out to get them at every available opportunity.

Lots of our staff think we should just continue to pay everyone as normal for as long as it takes to get back to business as usual. They think as we have 10s of millions of pounds in the bank, we can afford it. They don't seem to understand that if we don't have any cash coming in, we will burn through the cash reserve in a couple of months.

You see the same criticism on SM regarding the likes of Gordon Ramsey laying off 500 staff. Because he's worth a few mill people think he can keep paying his staff indefinitely.

Exactly!

I swear the P@P types (as you say theres a fair few of them reminding us that misery loves company) wont be happy until the country falls completely apart, there are millions of dead. Just so they can say "told you so"

Anything less than no infections and no deaths is a disaster on the scale of what the dinosaurs experienced!

Its pathetic! rolleyes

A man who spat at a police officer after he was stopped to be given advice about social distancing for COVID-19 has been jailed for 26 weeks.

David Mott, 40, of no fixed address, appeared at Blackburn magistrates yesterday (March 25th) where he was sentenced for offences including using threatening behaviour towards a police officer.

Mott was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a controlled class B drug. He was arrested after being stopped whilst out in a group following the Government guidelines to stay at home.

Officers carried out the stop and check on Green Lane, Padiham, on a vehicle containing three individuals, including Mott, at around 1.45am on March 24th when Mott became abusive 'coughing and spitting' at the officers on several occasions.

Mott was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to all three charges. The court stated that this was a 'particularly offensive and dangerous public order offence at this particular time coughing and spitting towards an officer'.

Sgt Linda Haywood from Lancashire Police said: “We as police officers are here to protect the public and should not be exposed to unnecessary risks in doing so by mindless acts such as Mr Mott displayed. It is good to see that the court are taking these types of incidents seriously.”

Please follow the http://orlo.uk/BCo34 website here http://orlo.uk/X3TSx for all the latest advice on COVID-19.

• A 23-year-old man from Accrington who was in Mott’s company at the time of the incident also received a penalty notice for disorder.
Anyone who spits at the police - or at anyone else - should be jailed anyhow, regardless of this current virus situation.
It's a frightening, digusting thing to do. The things you can spread are horrendous.
I wonder if the next stage we see will be looting of shops and break ins of private properties. I suspect there will be a lot of antsy druggies around with their supplies curtailed right now.

Here's some media panic inducing drivel, from the Telegraph;

Big splash headline;

"Supermarkets to let only 10 people in at a time to tackle coronavirus threat"

Beneath;

"Tesco has released detailed information for all its store managers, with 10 people allowed at a time in the chain's smaller shops, and 300 in its superstores"

So not 10 then. What a bunch of fktards.

Agreed. Walked 5mins to local supermarket express store in big town/city. Bought milk, orange juice, tomatoes and butter. Exactly what I went out for.

95% of self employed people will hopefully be covered by this. You took away his comment about people paying in fairer tax in the future?

Maybe it will mean less tax breaks on dividends?
