I fear that the public simply won't accept a lockdown, the fatality rate for those under 50 without any premorbid conditions is less than one percent so a large minority of people will just go about life like normal.
I think within 24 hours they will when they start getting arrested or the army is out. It could happen
yes The government have amazed by offering to cover wages so that we can stay at home and slow the spread, not go for jollies with our mates making everything more difficult. Anyone caught socialising like this weekend should have their NI taken and be omitted from government provisions.

Boggles my mind that these idiots don't look at Italy's death toll numbers. We are pretty much matching them if you take into account how we are two weeks behind.

Just proves how many selfish and arrogant people we have in this country.
During the Brexit referendum day of the vote. I was at the gym asked the girl on reception of she was going to vote. She said "oh that political thing i don't know anything about it". Simple fact is people are stupid and not aware.

Why haven't they put everyone over 60 on lockdown already?

If the strategy is to protect the NHS,surely this would have made sense. My in laws were in the stupid 'oh well, if it's my time, it's my time's camp. They seem to have got the message now, hopefully, not too late.

Good.

We have been told we will work until directed (not recommend, not advised, not urged) to stop by the govt.
Work involves accessing occupied tenanted social housing.
I'm not comfortable with my level of person to person contact.
With an Italian family detailing what is happening their at present I just want to hunker down and wait this out.
Looking at the behaviour of our govt, the public, employees and bosses if ever there was an entire country needing locked up against its will it is us.

A lockdown for London, say within the M25, would be a sensible first step.

And if they can make it permanent it'll be even better. Maybe they can do the same with Bradford and Birmingham?

We are in Spain at present with the full lockdown in place. It is not great as only one person per household can leave to go to the food shop or chemist, or a very restricted dog walk. All other shops are closed and the police are fining people (heavily) who ignore this.

As restrictive as this is, after sering the behaviour back there in the UK, this is needed there. People are too selfish and arrogant nowadays to do what is the right thing unless they are ordered to.

At the end of the day it is not like people are being asked to volunteer to storm the beaches of Normandy... Just to sit at home!

I think when the lock down comes it'll be everywhere. I suspect the decisions been made, provisions put in place, army mobilised.

No point in delaying.

The lockdown process will begin in London first methinks. Its a week ahead of the rest of the country on the outbreak count.

Plus to put it bluntly it's a melting pot of international folk with different views and opinions as well as recently travelled.

I suspect we have nowhere near enough police or troops to enforce it though. You may be able to do it in certain cities but that's about ti.

I doubt we do, but i think the next stage is closing ALL shops, excluding fuel, food etc.

However, if people just did as suggested, there should not be a reason to 'lockdown'.

They've their coronovirus bill ( https://services.parliament.uk/bills/2019-21/coron...) going through parliament today. Once that's in they'll have the legal powers to do the lockdowns as they need. Including the ability to detain people if they show any symptoms, and put them in appropriate isolation facilities.

I suspect once this bill is through, we'll very quickly see further movement restrictions.

No point locking down just London. The Italians tried that with the north, everyone fled and spread.

During their first lockdown efforts, police blocked the main roads. In the countryside locals left the areas with a lockdown on back roads and visited the bars in areas without a full lockdown. The virus spread.

Italians learned the hard way, and are now towing the line.

We should have done a full UK lockdown apart from trips for medical supplies and food as of today, but my feeling is it will be later this week.
Boris doesn't want people getting too bored.

Will this also need to go through HOL or could it be enacted tonight.

Quite surprised it's not already in place.

This is the problem with UK society now.

In fact even being ordered to will make no big difference to the mindset of the average village idiot.

With a massive decrease in Police numbers in the past decade thanks to the ex-PM when she was HS.......its going to be un-enforceable even in cities....without the Armed Services on the streets....and there's not many of them left either.

Some dude on R4 said there was already stuff in place that could be used. There is concern with this new one as to what is included.

It's not bored, try having small children in a confined space for days on end.

Regardless, it just shows people are utter morons. I was pictures of a rammed flower market ffs. What is wrong with people.

Yes I do think it's needed now. What's annoying me is the fact that don't people want this to be over with sooner rather than later!? If we all did the right thing we'd have this thing done with in a few weeks hopefully, but no, lets all go to the bloody seaside. tts.

A few days ago it was specifically mentioned that locking down London was impossible due to inadequate resources to enforce it.
