I suspect the lack of many people is numerous factors from having last job, discovering cheaper to drink with mates at home, seeing family instead of the boozer, some landlords taking retirement early rather than reopen.

That's hardly a new discovery, surely ?

Let’s face it, Nottingham city centre is a bloody cesspit in the evenings, Covid or not.
I don't recall him saying that, but prescient if he did.

Well let's be honest when I was young I went to pub with mates more as I did not have my own place etc. With these enforced lockdowns social habits may have changed plus 3 months of seeing how much more money you have might motivate you.

Well, you may be right. £1 for a can of normal lager or £4+ in the pub for a pint of the same stuff (give or take).

I left home at 18 so not having my own place has never been something that's been something I've had to think about.

I suppose it depends why you (I mean people) go to the pub. I go because I like pubs, the beer is almost a secondary consideration for myself anyway. Sometimes I even go on my tod, just because I love the idea of the boozer.

He did, just after the second wave of plague hit London and he was thinking of relocating to The Meadows.

Is this the famed 2nd wave that was coming after the ve day celebrations or the sunny bank holidays 2nd wave.

Neither of which happened as the death rates continue to fall rather than rise.

I was out in the 'burbs of Nottingham last night. It was quite quiet.

Ditto again today. Bars and cafes that could be open are not.

If I were a bar or cafe owner I'd be opening every hour that god sent and fashioning myself a shepherd's crook with a long handle to fetch people off the street.

I get the impression that a good many people are hiding behind the sofa still.
They are not hiding behind the sofa, they're waiting for more pubs to reopen so that the p*ssheads are better scattered and, hopefully, have got their initial silliness out of the way. Plenty of reports from around the country where drunks proved that they would never be able to socially distance [......amazing, who would have thought that.....!!].
Many are going to just stay at home in future.

It was the one that was coming after Easter, VE day, BLM protests, mass beach gatherings and so on.

It's like the second coming of Christ. 2000 years and the world is still waiting...but it's coming I tell you.

Just seen a news report about the first night out in Nottingham and virtually no SD whatsoever, and the typical 'fk everyone else' attitude of the pub goers, mainly under 30's at a guess.

I’m in Notts, and whilst I have no inclination of going to a pub just yet, I’m certainly not hiding behind a sofa.

Lace market isn't that bad, hardly ever go out in "town" but a couple of years ago was out on a bit of a one off and had a decent night in Pitcher and Piano and a couple in the Pit. Would not think of market square type area though,

I think Samuel Pepys predates VE Day by quite a few years, and as for the bank holidays, he was busy burying his cheeeeeeese so completely missed that second wave.

Just been out for a meal at our local specialist restaurant and they have done an excellent job of spending time to get themselves organised so that they are sticking to guidelines.

I even left them a generous tip as they really are lovely people.

Are we now seeing Governments starting to change their definition of spike/outbreak ?

So in the above, out of 70,000 people, there are 258 cases of CV. Not 258 deaths, not 258 serious cases, just 258 infections.

258 infections out of 70,000 is 0.36%. Is that really a spike out an outbreak ?

They will soon be moaning when their tourism industry crumbles.

On my usual walk today I noticed almost all the hairdressers were closed. The Mrs tells me that closing on a Monday is normal around these here parts.

So if there's all this pent-up demand for having your hair cut, surely after 3 months of being closed, these places would break their habits and open on Mondays for at least a while ? Maybe the media has overdone the mass hair cut demand ?

My barber is booking only. I had to book more than 2 weeks ahead. They are closed today.

My favourite cafe is big enough to reopen. They seem to be doing a halfhearted takeaway service on random days.

I haven't ventured into our nearest city yet, but plan to later this week. More out of morbid curiosity than anything else.

It's like everyone is reluctant to reopen. Too much government support perhaps?

I think a lot of them would have been absolutely manic all weekend so perhaps just need a bit of a break?
