It was always very unlikely that it would come out of lockdown after just 2-3 weeks when even the new figures are still very high. I've yet to hear precisely WHY Leicester has got such high figures. The only comment has been about a few factories, but the figures suggest it must be something more widespread.
I don't think it's anything unknown.Poverty, lots of factory environments with dubious working practises, lots of multi-generational living, lots of ethnicities and apparently some challenges with language, no doubt some people blatantly disregarding guidelines too.
Perfect storm.
However, it doesn't explain why Leicester rather than, say, Bradford, Rochdale, Wolverhampton, Luton etc etc
Bridgen is someone who always seems unhinged when he's interviewed on anything Brexit related but it's an interesting interview and if correct may go some way to explaining some of what's happened/happening in Leicester.

Our local politicians have known about them for years, it's just one of many things that they know about but doesn't get acted on. Grooming gangs are another (in other cities), it's just brushed under the carpet.Bridgen is someone who always seems unhinged when he's interviewed on anything Brexit related but it's an interesting interview and if correct may go some way to explaining some of what's happened/happening in Leicester.

There doesn't seem anything untoward about that picture. Are there other H&S issues.Bridgen is someone who always seems unhinged when he's interviewed on anything Brexit related but it's an interesting interview and if correct may go some way to explaining some of what's happened/happening in Leicester.

Minimum wage is enforced by HMRC not the Coucil.

Iain Dale did 2 hours on the subject and Maajid Nawaz is covering it now too.Minimum wage is enforced by HMRC not the Coucil.
One of the things discussed is that when you look at the sheer number of agencies involved whether it's local or national Government or law enforcement there may be a bit of "I thought they were dealing with it" going on.
Seems a right old mess.

Just been to my local Tesco. Relatively down at heel market town in North Yorkshire. Not a single face mask to be seen on either staff or customers. They've also done away with the queuing system and the one way system round the shop.
No requirement to wear a mask at present, or have a one way system. Robertj21a said:
Is it only coming to light now as they no longer have Keith Vaz as their MP .........???

His name was mentioned.
I don't know how much of it might be political mud-slinging but it's worth a listen.
He's definitely part of it. He's got his fingers in many dodgy pies. They reckon we've got about 50 of these illegal factories in our city, yet it took them days to send police around to them, by which time they'd packed up and moved most of the employees, so they only found evidence of 3. I don't know how much of it might be political mud-slinging but it's worth a listen.
It's not only in the factories either, you've literally got houses on the estate with people in back rooms doing machine work for £3 an hour, it's mental.

I refuse to belive that grooming gangs do not exist in Leicester, parts of it a very defiantly third world in attitudes and practice. Alucidnation said:

Probably mate, but what I mean is it's not known about by the wider community. In other places previously it's been known about but the police and councils seem to have took no notice or action.Elysium said:
