Politicians should take a longer term vision. .
No politician is brave enough. In fact Boris standing up to SAGE and resisting a full lockdown is quite surprising.
Yes it is. Which means he is up to something.
Just means he’s got a few nights out planned :-)

Can someone please explain how this Tier 3 lockdown thing works in relation to pubs.

I'm in a Tier 3 region and I've just been to the town centre. Wetherspoons is open as are other pubs - apart from the ones who don't sell food.

For clarity, I didn't see anyone eating in Spoons. Plenty of drinking going on though. It wasn't busy but it was busy enough IYSWIM.

I've never thought of Wetherspoons as a restaurant.
It’s only pubs without a food offer at all that have to close, and there’s not as many of those about as there used to be.

It’s really just some city centre bars and the odd pub that only sells crisps and pork scratchings behind the bar.
Ah, OK. Thanks mate. Pubs are (generally) open then ! What's all the kerfuffle about with this lockdown malarkey then ? I know they have to close at 10 pm but the way some people go on it's like the end of the world.
Well, in theory you can only go to the pub with your household, not to meet friends. Also you need to be having a substantive meal. Although all those people drinking are probably just waiting for it to be delivered to their table wink
It's a massive menu in Spoons. It takes time to read it and decide what you want. Thirsty work ! wink
Ive never been much of a Spoons fan. That might be about to change.

I put the NHS app on my phone thinking I was helping, got a message today saying ‘you might have been exposed but we are carrying out further investigations’.

I mean, WTF, either I’ve been exposed or I haven’t, what am I supposed to do, sit at home and wait for another message? I’m not coughing yet and I can still taste the chillis I’m testing myself with.

Our youngest child has delegated powers to deal with the Track and Trace bks at the restaurants we go to,

He regularly gets alerts saying "you've been exposed to COVID" followed by "oh no you haven't". He is forming the opinion that it's all a lot of nonsense.

I've been having a brief look at some of the numbers for infections etc and I think some places are already start to go in a postive direction and they're in tier 2 rather than 3. It might be early days but Leeds looks to be starting to go down and they haven't had to shut pubs. Assuming that's a trend I can't help but wonder if they've been hasty in Liverpool in not giving things a chance to take effect?

Wife’s colleagues use the app at the hospital. They get daily warnings because they’ve used the canteen where they need to scan in rofl

Only signed in at one place, it's an art installation of red / white flags to commemorate those who have died in the pandemic. It's installed in the middle of Pitchcroft, the Worcester horse racecourse and is surrounded by acres of empty grass. Only me there, even the dog had beggared off to sniff at the 3 furlong post. I'm not helping much am I?

Not my photo.

Just watching the BBC news. They were saying that our information from the app might be shared with the police.

I am sure none of us saw that coming.

Edited to correct this. Sky has just clarified that it isn't app data, but instead that provided to test centres. It is still not going to encourage some people to comply, though.

I'm guessing this might be one of the reasons that some/all(??) police forces were advised NOT to download the app when it was first released...
Will any of this be properly scrutinised in a future public enquiry?

I don't think this story is anything to do with the app.

As for the police not using it, it's probably to avoid them getting clusters and losing too many officers in one place.

Do you mean losing infected officers, or losing officers who aren't actually infected but are told they are?

Losing officers who the app has said have spent time near somebody who has later tested positive.
