Jesus wept. I implore everyone who has downloaded this st app to delete it asap. At best it is not fit for purpose and at worst another project fear tool for the Government to increase the hysteria.
'Jesus wept' you say.....'implore' you say...'st app' you say....'project fear' you say....hmmm
..that's pretty hysterical. Have you often wondered who exactly is hysterical? scratchchin
Perhaps not you friend but there are many who are afraid to leave their house. Ask your Barber how business is and how many of his pensioner customers have dropped off his list.
Do you wonder why people are afraid. People who know absolutely zero about technology are going on the internet spreading misinformation and lies. You don''t need to look too far to find it.

Just do what some others do, disable tracking and then click and scan check in, show them and then click cancel.

Irritating that they are mandating it but less annoying than giving some details.

I haven't looked into the details of how this app works, but presumably the QR code is separate from the Bluetooth exposure? Or else checking in for a quick drop off would be pointless?

Local Facebook group currently has a post from a chap suggesting the app hasn't notified him of a need to isolate but when he's gone in to scan a QR code he's noticed a countdown of days left in isolation on the front.

Having not been on the receiving end of an active notification or knowing anyone who has I'm not sure if I believe him or if there's something actually amiss with the way the app uses the notification system on the phone and what you can / can't disable. By default is seems to be set to "allow notifications" with banners, lock screen, sounds etc all enabled.

He sounds genuinely perplexed by it though rather than a malicious type trying to plant seeds of doubt.... which he's now done but maybe not on purpose

Another chap has responded with this:

Again it sounds dubious, surely the app would default to 14 days in all circumstances?

Obviously now there's 10's of people saying to uninstall the app, blaming Serco, talking about "Big Brother" and sharing inaccurate "facts" about how it all works and I'm not even going to try and go up against them as I know it's like trying to knit water but this thing with the notifications being missed has me intrigued.

So my understanding is this

Check ins are to flag high risk venues where there has been lots of cases. They can load these into the app and then it checks if you have checked in there and notifies you, at the moment there are tiny numbers of these

Bluetooth is to check proximity and duration on exposure to infected people.

So if you scan in and leave pretty quickly even with bluetooth and tracking on the chances of being flagged is miniscule.

Or create a QR code for home. Drop son off, scan in. Go home scan home QR code and automatically checked out of sports club

Only if you dont trust it 100%

Not quite, it's 14 days from the date the source took their test, so you'd typically expect to get 10-11 days. Could be much shorter if the source has taken their time inputting the test result into the app. Your quoted example of 2 days is a bit weird though.

Is this serious? A QR code for your home? Why? For what purpose?

Can't you just scan and cancel? Have the notifications turned off? Shouldn't be much risk of being pinged.

TBH you could just turn off bluetooth and it would stop scanning other phones.

Has anyone here actually got a legit message asking them to do anything?

I've had it on for three weeks, scanned myself into two different pubs and it's still all quiet on the western front. Are the QR codes not only in case the place gets shut down by an outbreak?

Being antisocial makes this whole rule of six thing much easier. laugh

I've had the app for a little bit now. About a week ago got a notification to open the app, because I'd had a possible contact with somebody with COVID! Well, I opened the app, and nothing came of it, so clearly I'd just been passing by, but within bluetooth range.

In some ways reassuring that the app works, but at the same time concerning that I've been anywhere near that virus.

So now we know - Boris was told by the App to self isolate, and he instantly knew whose phone had triggered it.
Hmmmmm.... suspicious or what?
Conclusion:
The app does indeed track who does what.
