Seems pretty certain now that second waves etc won’t lead to the same kind of blanket lockdowns again as we can’t afford it.
That's what everyone very much hopes, for sure.

Lots of people do things like the "Otley run" in Headingley, Leeds and move from pub to pub.

Looking at it from a different perspective, how many customers would that pub lose with unpredictable piss heads frequenting it?
We had no issues at our local, but the pub in the village next to ours chucked a group of around 15 people out (not locals) on Saturday because they wouldn't social distance. Not talking the 18-25 age range here, but 3-4 family groups.

Followed by ringing all five rural pubs within 5 miles with their description and reg numbers (which is how we found out about it). Apparently they turned up at two of them and were refused entry.

Thanks again Rover. Always helpful.

Again, nice and low. Although if (IF) there is to be a spike from this weekend then it won't be for 10-14 days.

ETA: Are you sure these are final figures and not the preliminary ones? What source are you using?

Further Edit: Your figures look correct from here so please ignore my earlier edit. Thanks again!

No idea. If I was the landlord I would rather have a family who drank, and ate, steadily for a couple of hours than some idiots who can't handle their drink and tend to act as if they are clever (rather than immature). Pubs that allow/encourage that deserve to go to the wall, and the sooner the better in my view.
So, basically you like family restaurants and you don't care much for pubs.

Glad we sorted that out. thumbup

Yep, Pillar 1 and 2 tests and deaths from all settings

https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/?_ga=2.104631616.1...

...

the question for me is - is there an 'acceptable' number of infections and deaths? and if so, what is it? I know that for some people they will not be content to return to normal until those numbers are 0 and 0, but imho if we get down to a consistent average of around 250 new cases and a dozen or so deaths then the case becomes very weak for continuing with keeping anything closed

May I ask for opinions.

We’ve had ;

Extensive beach gatherings
BLM Marches UK wide for weeks
VE Day street parties
Non Essential shops open
Schools closed
Schools opened
People travelling and meeting

Why hasn’t there been a spike?

It really makes me think we’ve gone way OTT with this.

It's looking more likely that problem areas are tight enclosed crowded spaces. Japan got this right from the start with their 3 Cs.

There’s no ‘thinking’ about it. We’ve definitely gone OTT and need to end the madness now.

Pubs are open but gyms are closed and I can only have one other household to come into my house! Madness.

Possibly because our assumptions about the virus were wrong and we don't yet understand how it spreads?

In really depends on specific locations for risk IMO

Schools never were a risky environment for this virus and you have almost no chance of catching it in most outdoor settings, despite all the shrill outrage of our media. So people sat around enjoying themselves on a beach had no impact.

Once people start going back to tightly packed, air conditioned, offices or similar indoor venues then you might see infections rise again in parts of the country. Look at the sort of flareups we are now seeing. In meat processing plants and the like.

" Vietnam could host the country’s first Formula One Grand Prix in late November, as the country approaches three months without domestic transmission of the coronavirus."

There will be no social distancing required, at all. But at least UK is not isolated!

Seems that you must be another who can't handle alcohol if that's how you read.

You do seem to have a particularity strong interest in Vietnam. Any particular reason?

I'm surprise they don't get more attention. No domestic cases in 3 months. Land border. No social distancing. Full football stadiums. Schools fully open.

Everyone moaning and dooming about lockdowns in spain crying 'we can never beat it'. Nonsense it's demonstrably possible to eliminate it.

If scotland can do 5 cases a day, england can do too.

I would say the plan has worked.

Lockdown has served its purpose.
