Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tests positive...
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/07/jair...
Somewhat embarrassing for him given his constant downplaying. I wish nobody ill from this disease however this could have a positive effect for the people of Brazil if it forces their leader to take the virus more seriously.

President that says covid isn't that deadly to most people has caught a dose that isn't very deadly. Surely in his mind it'll just prove him right.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/07/jair...

The average age for hospital admissions in America is 15 years younger than it was in the spring. The median age in Florida is currently 33. Clogging up hospital beds and taking a long time to die or recover.
I can easily see the UK following them.
Looks like it is finally moving through the bulk of the population then. Given rates of hospitalisation in those age groups that should mean a very widespread infection. I can easily see the UK following them.

Peru next door had a lockdown. Similar numbers.

I thought he was pretty sane about the whole thing tbh, much like the lunatic in Belarus.

a) they don't overwhelm intensive care facilities
b) too many people don't end up with long term or permanent disabilities
And as it's America:
c) Too many people aren't bankrupted by their medical bills!

I suppose one issue that is a little hard to avoid is that if Bolsanaro/Trump and the Belarus lunatic as you quite aptly describe are on the same side as you find yourself with regards to lockdown, it's that bit more tricky to be quite all that sure you are actually on the right track....I thought he was pretty sane about the whole thing tbh, much like the lunatic in Belarus.

I’d say he (was) closer to being a virus denier than he was a lockdown sceptic.
He’s also a massive prick but I wouldn’t wish this disease on him.

Pretty much my feelings. I don't wish death upon him but a bit of https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/07/jair...

Doesn't seem much change of mind is needed as Brazil seems to have roughly the same number of deaths per head as many other countries in south America.JagLover said:

Gangs and governors alike, defied him as much as possible. "Luiz Henrique Mandetta, his former health minister, strongly supported the restrictions imposed by state governors and his handling of the crisis was widely praised. But earlier this month, Bolsonaro fired him and appointed Nelson Teich, who has said he sees eye-to-eye with the president."
Will be messed up if the history books end up saying "trump, bolsonaro, Lukashenko - sane voices in a world gone mad'

In fact they seem to be running at similar levels to a month ago, bearing in mind elective surgeries have started up again in that time.
Interesting to see hospital admissions are at their highest since May 20th in the USA. Currently over 41,000 people admitted. It seems the avg age is younger but considering the rate has risen by 14% in a week, it's going to get very busy in a few states.
Texas has an extremely high positive test rate and Florida is pretty close behind.
