Not true. There a lots of people who want to go back to work. But I suppose if you are on a government sponsored holiday then you might be more inclined to want that to continue. TTmonkey said:

But I'm happy for the Government to do what is needed to get through this so that we don't see repeat performances due to taking the foot off the brakes too quickly. I hate the waiting and mounting depression caused by inactivity and loss of income but we're financially OK thanks to the various bits of support the Government has put in place so like many I have to deal with it and be patient.

Well, an explanation of why reception and Y1 (the least able to social distance) and Y6 (whose exams have already been cancelled) would be useful.
Both those items have been given.Youngest because they don't get affected badly.
Y6 because the move to Secondary education is a "right of passage" (not to mention scary/complicated/breaking up friendship groups).
Underlying everything is the obvious "someone has to go back to work first, let's figure out how to release small groups easiest".
Apparently the groups chosen are groups that didn't have to stay home under the rules, but did anyway, and those with specific year groups of kids who could have worked if the kids had school to go to.
All I'm hearing from "the public" on the news/twitter/facebook is people who like to try and find loopholes in specific instructions, upset that the instructions are not specific enough. Probably the same people who wanted to be treated like adults. Now given an instruction for adults and upset about it. With another group of "the instructions impact me to mean I might have to do work and I don't like it".
While I suspect the majority are "Yep, a bit more freedom, some more back to work, be alert to make sure you don't do anything with the freedom to spread the virus. Fair enough."
The Kiwis have a much better approach.

All BS. First, Family Court judges are sitting. Today. My friend has had to cough up another £200+ to get the ex (who acted like you) in front of the court to explain cutting off contact. If the judge makes an order, contact will definitely restart (there has previously been a penal notice due to your type of shenanigans).
And the last bit - is simply parental alienation. (Of course, if your 12yo had decided that she did want to see her mother, you wouldn't be thinking she was smart, and you'd have explained that she was wrong, through her tears.) The courts are only slowly coming around to seeing that for what it is: https://www.parklaneplowden.co.uk/news/the-courts-...
But this is a distraction from this thread, so I'll leave it. But it's proof that a lot of people hear what they want to hear in this crisis, and use it to further their own interests.

You obviously don’t have a clue, you will hear what “your friend” tells you and side with anyone in their situation.
I would say “your friend” is as selfish as they come if they were willing to put their Own need to see their Child before the health of their child and household whilst all this drama was unfolding.
Parental alienation? My kids mum did that all by herself when she got my kids half brothers taken off her by social services. Incidentally that was for putting her own needs before her kids As well.
Now wind your neck in over a situation you don’t Fully understand.
BTW, your friends £200 is wasted. If you think some police officers are going to storm into his exes house and drag the kids away kicking and screaming then he’s as deluded as you are. The family courts are a complete waste of time in my experience. I spent thousands trying to get contact with my daughter, it was only when her mum royally fked up With social services that I was awarded custody. A hollow victory to be honest.

Otherwise capable people who don't support Boris or the Tories fail at basic comprehension allied to basic research when considering plain English from a Conservative source,
A related condition regarding numeracy is selectively understanding misleading statistics while failing to grasp more appropriate alternatives as per the twitter 'second worst' propaganda which Piers fell for. Good to see his sidekick got her latest comeuppance.

So if you fly in from Holland, you get quarantined, if you arrive by ferry from Holland you dont, yes that makes perfect sense. Why only UK airlines, then again, the media are masters of misquoting stuff.

Not just the French, but all travellers arriving from France.
Possibly an EU wide deal has been agreed on non-quarantine.
I wouldn't be surprised is the French are as usual playing silly buggers. It will be something like "if you impose restrictions on us we will impose restrictions on everyone coming from your country"Possibly an EU wide deal has been agreed on non-quarantine.
They have already threaten ones to cut our supply lines off if we didn't fall in line.

The whole thing seems odd. We are, slowly, unwinding the lockdown but have decided now is the time to increase travel restrictions at airports. Makes little sense. Also given that summer is coming up I know where I'd rather go on holiday and it isn't the UK.
There is no point in restricting visitors to the country when they are less likely to be infected than residents. Once we have transmission within the country under control it becomes worthwhile to stop people bringing it in from overseas.TTmonkey said:

The World Travel and Tourism Council expressed concern about the new measures, saying they would damage confidence among would-be travellers.
Isn't there some sort of virus that might worry them slightly too?
Some new statistics from the Office of National Statistics.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by occupation, England and Wales: deaths registered up to and including 20 April 2020
Pretty grim reading

That's exacly what happened, plus it would have caused a bit of a problem if all the teachers coming back from France at the end of their usual 6 week summer holiday needed to isolate for a further 2 weeks.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
