Driver films himself doing 200mph in an RS6 on UK m/way

The worst thing about this is that he's holding his phone while doing it so he doesn't even have both hands on the wheel (and is probably looking at it too). Sheer stupidity.
Does he also do a "thumb and forefinger" zoom as he passes 200? Mental. What an utter bell. ridds said:

I'm sure the road is very capable. The driver on the other hand... And any driver at that speed actually, not so much in the likely eventual event of someone pulling out. Utter cretin to even try that IMO. Even without the phone.

Aside from anything else, why on earth did the driver post it on YouTube?
Did he really think there's gonna be any other outcome than the law coming down on him/her like a tonne of bricks?
Idiot, in more ways than one.

Nothing in the footage identifies the driver
Nothing in the footage identifies the car (beyond it being an RS6)
Assuming he doesn't own the car, or have it sitting on his drive when the police knock, what can they honestly do about it? All he's got to say is "wasn't me".

Those closing speeds on slower traffic look terrifying for UK roads.
Not unsafe per se - the car is capable, traffic light, conditions dry and visibility good - this is what a German autobahn looks like. The difference being that autobahn drivers expect high speed passes and actually (mostly) practice lane disciple / check their mirrors more than once before pulling out. UK drivers don't and rightly just wouldn't expect 150mph closing speed differentials...
So my original point stands - utter madness for the driver to put that trust into other drivers not to be part of a horrendous accident... At those speeds by the time you realise it's going wrong, many people are likely dead.
According to my old man who lives over in Germany this isn't true, alot of drivers over there are just as bad as they are over here for lane discipline. Not unsafe per se - the car is capable, traffic light, conditions dry and visibility good - this is what a German autobahn looks like. Agreed, in my experience they are no better than drivers in the UK - I think drivers in both countries are pretty good for lane discipline but you get the odd nutter. Limpet said:

Wouldn't the police manage to trace him from the YT account? And then identify the car through ANPR? Or was he going way too fast for that to be possible... And then perhaps they could find a link between the owner Nothing in the footage identifies the driver

of the car and him. Surely they know each other. It might not be enough for a conviction of course but I hope it is.

HERE
Perfectly capable section of road to do it on but one handed? Also it's a hotspot for Police and Speed cameras.
It is no more a hotspot than most other places on the motorway. I (used to) drive it every day and I can't remember the last time I saw them with cameras.HERE

The ANPR cameras can be searched and the data is retained long enough
There are CCTV cameras on many parts of the Network
There also speed cameras and traffic flow monitor sensors which may have pinged up the high speed time/date/location
Beyond that the mobile phone can be traced and tracked ( assuming it wasn’t disabled )
An alternate way is to reverse search and trace from keeper details of all RS6 ( starting with narrow parameters) and see where they were at the date/time
It’s fairly simple if you know when/where it was recorded, the wider the parameter the bigger the task
Ultimately if they can ID the vehicle the Registered keeper either gives up the driver or ends up in court.
It would be pretty simple to put the RK or A.N. Other in the Vehicle.
So yep it can be done but it depends if there’s a will .. and I suppose it depends how big a stink there is over it
