I’m currently reading a book on Putin. His Russia, and now The USA are becoming very much the same.

Can anyone explain the hysteria behind the tweet Trump made?

Is the quote from a film or something?

Seems totally normal straight talking Trump to me. It’s why a lot of people love the guy in the US, I’m sure the majority of hard working, law abiding people there would probably welcome his comment, no?

Just seems to me the media love to stir the pot.

Haven’t we got things a bit backward when we’re outraged at a comment towards people stealing and looting intended to make them stop?
i follow Larry Elder on twitter for some perspective.

Are you guys really this dense?

It's not the thug comment that's the problem it the comment about shooting civilians on the street.

Perspective? Bias.

As a poster above explained:

The quote the president tweeted — "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" — was said by former Miami Police Chief Walter Headley during a December 1967 news conference, according to The Washington Post.
Miami had a long history of aggressive policing. The Post said that quote was cited by a national commission as a contributing factor in rioting that broke out in the mostly black Liberty City section of Miami in August 1968.
Seems a bit of an inflammatory statement to make.

Don't bother trying to respond to Carl. He's either an utterly thick, wannabe MAGA redneck or a serious troll.

It a great tactic. He wants to take the public disgust about reveling in violence and move it to thugs. No one was bothered by thugs, but let's make that the argument. It's gone on with the Cummings thread. The press are blamed for, it seems, revealing the behaviour. If someone wants to defend the undefendable, then invent a bete noire.

What do you think is the solution to dozens of people (regardless of colour) entering & looting stores of goods, under the pretence they are upset about a guy dying whilst being arrested for fraudulent behaviour. Not only that but attacking police and smashing / torching cars. We saw it in London not too long ago... the arson attacks were devastating.

Every time something happens involving black people it seems to end in rioting, looting and arson!

I’m not a racist but this can’t be allowed to happen. A lot of the crimes committed are by opportunists making the most of the situation. judge

How about tackling the triggers for rioting first?
Start with trying to regain the community's trust by properly investigating incidents like this.
And when the community peacefully protests, let them march, just as they did with the 2nd Amendment MAGA groups. Don't hit them with tear gas and rubber bullets unless they actually commit offences..

Fair sensible comments.yes Had this been a white guy ... do you think we would have even heard about it. You know as well as I do , dozens of white people in America would not have reacted like that. They just wouldn’t .

Is it just me or are the media race baiting this causing all this unrest. Yes the police officer acted disgustingly and it is murder in my view, but what has it got to do with race? The media is causing the divide to worsen in my opinion. I saw another video of a black cop shooting a black man who was detained on the floor posing little threat, yet i haven't seen that in the news? Because it doesn't fit their race baiting agenda?

You may not have noticed, but some of those smashing up the buildings were white.

Not fair sensible comments at all.

Start by addressing inequality, poverty and racism.

And when a section of society have faced generations of the above, then one can start to understand how these folk get a bit miffed.

Perhaps Mario hasn't seen the video of the white bloke (possibly a cop) smashing windows.

Please provide evidence that that's the case with that building.

Or, failing that, evidence that business owners are committing widespread insurance fraud.

I wasn’t referring to that building. I was referring to any failing business/property that the proprietor may wish to dispose of.... with financial gain from insurance. Not once did I say anyone has done that . nono

You were alluding to it, when the reality is of stories of business owners defending their properties by arming themselves and stationing themselves in front of their buildings.
