I guess switching to a 1m distance would mean they'd only queue for about half a kilometre.
Surely this is an ideal time to introduce a new, vaguely modern, voting system?
They're limiting the number present in the chamber - has there been any official statement as to how those seats will be allocated? First come first served, proportional to total seats held by each party, etc?
They already seem to have a new digital voting system that seems to have been shown to work during this crisis.Surely this is an ideal time to introduce a new, vaguely modern, voting system?

The accusation being made of Mogg is that he's playing politics by wanting to bring back the "atmosphere" of the HoC possibly to help colleagues who may be struggling in a quiet chamber rather than focusing solely on how they can do their job safely whilst sticking to Government guidelines.

SIlly adaptations in silly suggestions are silly. Sensible voting adaptations are available using tech.
ETA the point in the post I replied to originally wasn't about what options there are and whether they're tech or not, it was about MPs setting an example by returning to work, it wouldn't be a visible and therefore useful example if it involves continuing to work remotely (or not work depending on perspective).

Nice to see you think his suggestion is silly too though.

How about the MPs who send their children to public schools set an example by insisting those schools re-open now, not in September?
That might encourage some parents to let their children go back to state schools now.
Public Schools would be delighted to do so...I have had two letters from head teachers in the last 24 hours, both of whom would love to reopen fully right away. That might encourage some parents to let their children go back to state schools now.

But the tabloid press hasn't got everybody so riled up about those schools. That might encourage some parents to let their children go back to state schools now.

It's only going to get more chaotic.
It's going to be difficult to let pragmatic heads rule, when we have pressure from all sides to do exactly the right thing at exactly the right time, given that there are hundreds of different views on what and when is 'right'.
We need a leader. Somebody to say "this is right" and "this is wrong".It's going to be difficult to let pragmatic heads rule, when we have pressure from all sides to do exactly the right thing at exactly the right time, given that there are hundreds of different views on what and when is 'right'.
We elected a man who has always fled from that kind of responsibility and this situation is no different.

Haven't watched it but it appears common sense has prevailed and they are not returning.
Twittersphere has the shots of the conga around the parliament buildings grounds outside. Good job this isn't feb when we had one of the wettest winters going. I was under the impression the online voting was a goer. Security must be an issue as well. They are now coming in past the dispatch box distancing to say aye nor no. I missed the reason for this division amendment.

I deleted my post as I must have misheard the radio as I was sure it said they had voted to continue with the current arrangements but apparently not They are now coming in past the dispatch box distancing to say aye nor no. I missed the reason for this division amendment.
