Whilst the correct decision, this is the same university who just last week defended a lecturer who said white lives don't matter, and white people should be kneecapped, as exercising her free speech and promoting discussion.

Well on the basis of the thousand posts it took to arrive at the position of no one agreeing with Marxism from the original question of whether BLM are Marxists I'd say there are many arguments between that have gone unresolved.

I for one would like to know where social justice and absolute equality becomes communism. Surely a fine line there while impossible to have people achieve income in commensurate with their full potential without capitalism.

Further, the blanket of social justice causes which seem closely linked to an opposition to capitalism.

Then we have the black experience and the roots of deprivation which was shut down by the racism argument.

So no, this thread was a bit of a circus really and I'm quite surprised all those arguing a position so vehemently disappeared to be replaced by another set of posters with another argument.

Yes in one sense it has gone fill circle on the BLM Marxism debate which is something. I presume some posters dropped out when they realised BLM was more than just a slogan but not before the accusations thrown at BLM's detractors.
I agree with the theory of Marxism from an emancipatory viewpoint. I also agree with the theory of capitalsism from the same vantage point. The problem is, they are theories and people ruin theories, religions, whatever by bending them to their own agenda.

Understood, and that lecturer should also “resign” for blatant racism.

Yes. It’s ridiculous.

Resigning would be fair and equal but it doesn't sound like equality is her thing.

More delicious irony.

Just seen another piece of BLM graffiti naming George Floyd, Belly Mujinga, Jamie Duggan and someone else who may well have been a victim of a racist attack but the name did not jump out at me.

I'm just not sure what point is being made which wouldn't be better illustrated by naming a victim of someone forced in to a life of violence by this racist system. Personally I wouldn't wish to disrespect any innocent boys killed in such circumstances by naming them to prove a political point.

Just to confirm, did you just use the words innocent boy and Mark Duggan in the same post?

I know it was a joke when Terry Crews played the President, but can Terry Crews actually be the President?

Kudos to him for sticking his head above the parapet.
I do wonder what MLK would say to what's happening today.

I’ve just been reading the BLM website and can’t see any reference to all of this communist/socialist stuff that’s being attributed to them.

https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/

Can somebody post a linky please, cheers.

I think most of it comes from the BLM UK gofundme page. https://uk.gofundme.com/f/ukblm-fund

There is a BLM UK website but it says that it's not affiliated with either the @blmuk twitter or the gofundme campaign. It's all decentralised, leaderless stuff.

Agreed. And it is sad that people have attempted to deride you for answering a question that was posed.

There's an interview with Patrisse Kahn-Cullors, one of the three founders of the original Black Lives Matter organisation in the USA.

Because, America matters so much and every cop shoots everyone they arrest.

Typical sensationalist BS. Oh. So. Predictable.
