Agreed. This being my point.
Buying a dog which has had it's ears cropped is very different from buying one and requesting the operation.
I do also feel that for working dogs, which properly trained guard dogs most definitely are, there is an argument for safety/welfare of the dog in worst case scenario, for docking tails and ears. This for very, very specific cases and only with controls and not for the average chav-on-the-street.
What?Buying a dog which has had it's ears cropped is very different from buying one and requesting the operation.

ot saying I would want either, but Animal Welfare Act 2006 banned tail docking and cropping in England and Wales other than for medical reasons and with some exemptions for working dogs.
Ah, Sorry Digga, misread and reacted! Just had a quick look at the report. Medical / injury I can understand but I can't see how cutting it's tail off or cropping its ears could help in any working environment, other than fighting!! And for that I would advocate cropping of parts of the 'owner'

Except this isn't a working dog. He doesn't treat it like a working dog, he treats it like a pet. It's just a big pet dog which has been trained to be aggressive when required. And whilst I agree entirely it's probably an issue he's completely ignorant of, what it does do is perpetuate a desirable trend amongst the idiots that use football players for trends in culture status.

When I was a kid, my mate's family had an Alsatian that had been trained. It used to be lose in the grounds of the house sometimes. There was a sort of gatehouse, with vehicle and pedestrian gate and a postbox, so postie didn't have to run the gauntlet. If the gates were shut, I knew I had a very short time to make the dash to the safety of the porch. If they weren't in I was stick in the porch with the dog outside going mad.

A well-trained personal security dog is fine with owner and family. They can be petted, to a degree, but to strangers they are very different.

He takes the pet dogs for walks and kickaround in the park...When I was a kid, my mate's family had an Alsatian that had been trained. It used to be lose in the grounds of the house sometimes. You're not doing that with an trained protection dog. Kid runs over for an autograph and he's going to have issues.

Whether purchased or carried out in ignorance or not. By putting this poor dog all over his Instagram, he's created an instant demand for similarly mutilated dogs.
Perhaps he should get his PR agency to launch a campaign on his behalf to campaign against this abhorrent practice. It seems to be something that's well within his normal scope of operations to arrange.
The initial ignorance I can forgive. But surely he's not ignorant of the issues now or of the effect his actions have had on the problem?

There are some (note, not all) pistonheaders who would benefit from stepping outside their comfortable "PH private" bubble once in a while.
Fully agree. Some pistonheaders really need to educate themselves as to just how profligate and generous the benefits system can be for those who know how to take full advantage of it i.e. having kids you can't afford and then choosing to only work minimal part time hours even when full time hours are available in order to claim optimum "in work" benefits.
