Anyhow, to hopefully bring T Shirtgate to a close, I have one of these. We cremated my father in law in his last month (he said he wasn't dead, but we didn't believe him...).

Back to the matter in hand. I posted waaay back, that in the 4 years since Trump's election victory the demographics have shifted, with older Trump voters coughing their last, and greater numbers of younger, more progressive, Democrat aligned voters, especially black and Hispanic, getting the ticket.

The GoP must know Trump could be their death rattle.

Trumps gone golfing for the weekend. Still no response to the CV-19 crisis, no response to the russian bounty on American troops, no response to his poor polling, but another 3 day golfing weekend for him at his own property. Gotta get that money into his business

More obstruction.
Commerce Department obstructing release of ‘Sharpiegate’ investigation, inspector general says

The inspector general for the Commerce Department sent a memo to Secretary Wilbur Ross on Wednesday evening expressing “deep concern” that the department is infringing on the office’s independence by preventing the release of a final report on the investigation of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration statement about Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

More signalling to his base?

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump head to Mount Rushmore National Memorial on Friday to celebrate an early Fourth of July at a gathering of an estimated 7,500 people during a global pandemic.

No social distancing is planned for the event despite the record-high new coronavirus cases in the United States. And the event takes place amid environmental concerns over the use of fireworks in the dry land and as the country engages in a reckoning over its own monuments and racist history.

Contentious because Mount Rushmore is built on land stolen from Native Americans

In the days before his visit, some Native American leaders called for destruction of the massive sculpture — built in the Black Hills on land taken from the Lakota tribe to honor several presidents they say were hostile to Indigenous people.

And protesters are expected to greet Trump on his trip and express Native Americans’ broader grievances. Tribal leaders have criticized the president for what they describe as harmful policies, delayed and watered-down measures to help their community and his offensive language.

Turns out it's his 273rd day of golf and 365th day at one of his properties, yes a whole year in just 3.5 years of his presidency.

I would assume that there will be the same number of older voters this November - Covid-19 permitting - as there were 4 years ago.

X number of old people have died since 2016
X number of young people have become eligible to vote since 2016

Of those two X numbers, how many of the old ones voted for Trump, and how many of the young ones will vote for Trump?
This is a subject I find fascinating. The standard argument I hear is that 'X right wing party's supporters are dying off' to which the standard riposte is 'yes but everyone will have aged in the meantime so people will have switched to party X as they get older'.

I've fallen down various rabbit holes over the years trying to get to the bottom of this and even as someone used to long reports and complex issues I've got to surround this one with mindfield signs, the more data you collect on this subject the less answers and more questions you will have.

What we have here is a person and a political opinion which supposedly changes over time, both of which need clarification.

Person (nature)...
You might think that that it may not need clarification as to what a person is however I refer you to this study attempting to establish how much nature and how much nurture goes in to a person's political opinions: Study on twins suggests our political beliefs may be hard-wired https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/12/09/s...

This is important because it establishes that there is both a biological as well as sociological element to our political opinions.

Political (nurture)...
The following are all socially liberal opinions...

Grandma - As long as gays keep it to themselves I don't see what the problem is.
Dad - Sure, I went to a couple of gay clubs at college and not my thing but gotta say they've got some banging tunes.
Daughter - My ex had a hard drive full of robo-scat-animie-inflation porn. Gay is so inside the sphere of normal these days.

The point here is that society and political opinions are relative rather than absolute, grandma can have held the same opinions all her life yet may appear less socially liberal because society has changed more than grandma has. If society has become more socially liberal it is a very different hypothesis to the idea that the older person has become more right wing.

<><><>

For the purposes of keeping things simple lets assume that nature is a largely static thing where the population is a 50/50 split between people whose brains trend towards a hierarchical view with outsiders seen as a threat and people whose brains trend towards a connected view with outsiders are seen as an opportunity (and much grey area inbetween).

On the nurture side we have two primary vectors to consider, the rate of change of a person's opinions as they get older and the rate of change of society. I would argue based on what I've read and experienced that once people are set in their ways about age 30ish they don't tend to change that much so the rate of change of an older person's opinions tends to be slower than the rate of change of society.

As evidence of this I would refer people back to Gladstone vs Disraeli in the late 1800's as an example of how society has changed faster than our brains which have remained with the same hierarchical vs connected outlooks striving for balance between these viewpoints.

<><><>

To get back on topic as I do realise I've rambled somewhat...

Yes a number of Trump voters will have died off since 2016 however it does not follow that the people who have aged enough to be considered older voters in the last four years are suddenly going to vote for Trump. I can not think of a single person I know who dramatically changed their life outlook as they aged from 61 to 65.

The trend of 'people getting more conservative as they get older' is a misnomer because older people have seen enough st to not be blown by the breeze. The actual trend is for society to move relative to the older person rather than the older person moving relative to society. This means that if Trump and the republicans are to succeed in moving society to the right then it will appear as if older people are becoming more left wing, not because old people have moved but because society has moved.

As a general rule I don't comment on the legal goings on because I'm woefully unequipped to do so. I will say though that sharpiegate is one of the most hilarious things I have seen in a very long time. Nothing Ricky Gervais has ever done will come close.

I posted some stuff yesterday/previously in the week? that clarified this. How the white base is falling, how trumps actions has enabled the youth vote to come out and vote against him, how it started for the 2018 mid terms and has grown since.

It's also why Stephen Miller has trumps ear with his policies to keep blacks/mexicans out the country, because they typically vote democrat.

Edit: In fact you can see it another way. Biden has outraised Trump in funds in the last two months, with the protests generating not only political interests and people registering to vote, but also donate.

Biden’s campaign raised $141 million in June for $282 million total cash on hand for the quarter.
Donald Trump’s campaign raised $131 million in June for a total of $266 million.

According to Biden’s campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon, 68% of the funds raised in June came from new donors, and 2.6 million signed up to join the campaign. Trump’s campaign claims to still have “plenty of money sitting in the bank,” but they have not reported any new donors or volunteers.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the girlfriend of Don Jr., has tested positive for the coronavirus. She was the only person in the group who tested positive of the people travelling for trumps firework extravaganza at Mount Rushmore

Guilfoyle is the third person in possible proximity to Trump known to have contracted the virus.

Ms. Guilfoyle traveled to South Dakota with Mr. Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., in anticipation of attending a huge fireworks display where the president was set to speak. They did not travel aboard Air Force One, according to the person familiar with her condition, and she was the only person in the group who tested positive.

As a routine precaution, people who come in close contact with Mr. Trump are screened for the virus.

Ms. Guilfoyle is the third person in possible proximity to Mr. Trump known to have contracted the virus. A personal valet who served Mr. Trump his food and the press secretary for Vice President Mike Pence tested positive for the virus in May.Ms. Guilfoyle was not experiencing symptoms, the person familiar with her condition said. She and the younger Mr. Trump never met up with the president’s entourage, the person said. Out of caution, the couple plans to drive back from South Dakota to the East Coast, the person said.

Hours before Trump's event, protesters blocked a road leading to Mt. Rushmore. Native Americans were protesting that South Dakota's Black Hills were taken from the Lakota people against treaty agreements and chanted "Land back!"

@IvankaTrump
Please be safe & responsible this holiday weekend. As we celebrate this 4th of July, follow state & local guidelines to keep you & your loved ones safe. Practice proper hygiene, social distancing & wear a mask when in close proximity to others.

Remember, there's still at least eight Secret Service agents are currently holed up in a hotel in Phoenix, some suffering the flu-like coronavirus symptoms after coming down with the disease while preparing for a visit by Mike Pence.

It's not surprising Don Jr's girlfriend has CV-19

A Hamptons insider was stunned to arrive at a house in Bridgehampton on Saturday night to find a packed party that looked “as if COVID had never happened” — with Donald Trump Jr. and girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle among the revelers.

Our spy estimated there were about 100 partiers, who our source says were maskless, at the bash at the 51 Sandpiper Lane mansion, hosted by famed Hamptons builder Joe Farrell, who owns the pricey pile and is selling one down the road for $15 million. The event — which comes days after Long Island entered Phase Three of reopening and while COVID cases surge in some parts of the country — had a caterer and uniformed bartenders.

Team trump hve realised the virus isn't going to magically disappear as trump says so are going to deliver a new message "We need to live with it", to cover their terrible response, delays and denials. They can't have the triumph of defeating it, far from it, so will try to manage the message instead.

After several months of mixed messages on the coronavirus pandemic, the White House is settling on a new one: Learn to live with it.

Administration officials are planning to intensify what they hope is a sharper, and less conflicting, message of the pandemic next week, according to senior administration officials, after struggling to offer clear directives amid a crippling surge in cases across the country. On Thursday, the United States reported more than 55,000 new cases of coronavirus and infection rates were hitting new records in multiple states.

At the crux of the message, officials said, is a recognition by the White House that the virus is not going away any time soon — and will be around through the November election.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/we-...

They've started already. Peter Navarro is the "Defense Production Act" coordinator for the COVID response, that has gone missing, now claiming it's a weaponised virus.

Navarro: Everybody thought and this was a reasonable presumption, that come summer, the heat and humidity would get rid of the virus. It doesn’t look that way. This looks like a weaponized virus.

Edit: More here
White House advisor Peter Navarro was roasted on Friday after a bizarre interview on MSNBC where he pushed multiple conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic while attempting to deflect blame from the president.

Wrong move as he was deluged with photos of trump with Epstein and Maxwell biggrin

All that got was Walter Reed trending on twitter and an equal type of response. All this as his girlfriend tested positive for CV-19 after they went to a Hamptons party...
