CV19 - Cure worse than the disease? (Vol 3)
Discussion
A very interesting interpretation here by a clinician:
He analyses both 2009 H1N1 and 2020 COVID and is quite convincing that the "spread" we see is not the disease cases but literally the creation and distribution of the tests

BBC loving it as usual.
"Coronavirus: Calls for government to clarify face coverings in England"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53371441 (apologies if already posted)
More scare-mongering, not one dissenting or questioning voice. WTF is going on?!
As Mrs.T66 just said - "If this comes in, I'm not going shopping anywhere where I have to wear one. I'll shop online instead."
Vote with your wallets/buying options - it's the only way of putting pressure on to stop the fking panic.
I agree, particularly considering the cases per thousand/pop. "Coronavirus: Calls for government to clarify face coverings in England"

But in a small relatively quiet, semi rural Tesco store near me, four (or two depending on which news report) staff were confirmed as having the virus on 2/7. Out of a couple of dozen, at a guess. I've used it once since March and it all seemed pretty organised.
I'm quick to question what the herd thinks; I should be as quick to question what I think if it seems right.
I'm fairly off how this is all playing out with problems for businesses, face masks etc, but I rode through Birmingham city centre just now and it was much busier than I expected in terms of shoppers and drinkers. I think it's going to be a massive struggle for restaurants though. Probably sub 10% mask wearing.
Off this evening to a very busy restaurant pre-covid which I managed to book only an hour ago. Will be interesting to see how busy it is/has been.

Likewise, got a table booked with a few friends for 6.30 at one of my favourite pubs. Tonight experience will shape how much money I’ll be spending until this nonsense goes away. Went round the shops in Wanstead today, each shop we walked into we had sanitiser squirted on our hands by staff in perspex visors.
Had a drink in the Spoons which now has seperation screens between tables and big perspex screens at the bar. Still cheap though.
They would have to be paying me to go drinking in there right now.Had a drink in the Spoons which now has seperation screens between tables and big perspex screens at the bar. Still cheap though.

Don't forget to wear your mask in the restaurant. Last weekend my girlfriend was worrying about forgetting to take a mask to the pub.
I said to her, how are you going to eat and drink with a mask on!
In general I would say less than 5% around here wear masks, so I don't know how the polls say 35% of shoppers are wearing them.

In the supermarket is probably where I’ve seen the most masks being worn and that is nowhere near 35%.

Went out for the day yesterday, to the zoo. We wore masks because it’s not too much of an inconvenience. I’m in my 50s with some of those things that would make getting cv19 dangerous.
I was amazed to see maybe 3-4 thousand people many of them in the 50-60-70 age range, and barely another mask to be seen, anywhere.
This was in hants, where the R rate is supposed to be still quite high.
So wearing your mask was utterly pointless.I was amazed to see maybe 3-4 thousand people many of them in the 50-60-70 age range, and barely another mask to be seen, anywhere.

I've just switched on to watch the formula 1 highlights on Ch 4.. and turned it straight back off again. I can't bring myself to watch all and sundry talking to camera with masks on, it's just fking ridiculous.

Glad someone else thinks that too. I watch F1 for a bit of escapism - I'm not interested in how virtuous they all are bending over backwards to put their masks on for the cameras. And we can see here, as soon as the cameras are off, so are the masks.

It's really quite disturbing as they are portraying this as being normal and it fking isn't. I do not want to wear a mask at any time.
Perhaps this recent push for mask wearing is just a way to stop us all cramming down Mars Bars?

I’m actually supportive of a govt campaign to reduce obesity (as long as it doesn’t get too nanny state about it) but what I don’t agree with is using “2nd wave” as both the reasoning and the stick. They should be selling the benefits not leveraging fear of something which let’s be honest if this 2nd wave comes when they are all telling us it will (autumn/winter this year) then this will be too late for most to make any tangible difference to their Covid survival chances.https://amp.theguardian.com/society/2020/jul/11/no...

Most people have had time to lose four stone in lockdown, if the government gave two craps and explained it. They won't. It's worth remembering that we were pretty thin in the seventies, and what happened around 1980 that changed.
