Bus drivers don't need to wear masks though.
I understand that a face covering can be a bandanna/old scarf/DIY from the missus stockings etc., so basically useless.....
Anyway, Google Maps suggests that my train journey will be around 5 or 6 hours - I hope they relax the mask requirement by mid-August!

Is it wrong to find this funny. I would like to know what constitutes a minor incident...

BREAKING: 'Major incident' declared as thousands flock to beaches

A major incident has been declared by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council after thousands of people defied the advice to stay away and descended on its beaches on the hottest day of the year so far.

A multi-agency emergency response has now been activated to co-ordinate resources across the area.

Council Leader Vikki Slade said:

We are absolutely appalled at the scenes witnessed on our beaches, particularly at Bournemouth and Sandbanks, in the last 24-48 hours.

The irresponsible behaviour and actions of so many people is just shocking and our services are stretched to the absolute hilt trying to keep everyone safe.

We have had no choice now but to declare a major incident and initiate an emergency response.

This is the councils moment, they love to control peoples lives.

Cases and deaths up today on yesterday.

I'm telling myself that it's because statistics get quite lumpy when the numbers get low and that I shouldn't worry about it.

Someone please tell tell me that this is true ....

I think their moment in the sun (did you see what I did there) is coming to an end as everyone says: "ps off"

Now we need:-

A fight on the beach

Drunken women falling out of their clothes tonight

And my cup will have runneth over. Don't you just love outraged officialdom?! Fingers crossed for a Sturgeon meltdown as well.

It's their own fault for not closing the roads if they don't want people to visit.

It is funny but also truly appalling how much these people want to control our lives.

A rough guess at how many people have caught Covid on a beach? 1? 2? Out of 67 million. We will be fine.

Now get your fking hands off our lives, government!

But you should celebrate the fact that everyone is ignoring them. They are background noise. Maybe we will see a spike in two weeks and then we will be sorry....

Where did you read that? They are lower than yesterday.
Albeit, slightly higher than before (less than 5% which on such a small number is insignificant change in deaths IMO).

BBC said:
Another 149 deaths in UK
The latest figures from the Department of Health show a further 149 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, across all settings.

It takes the total number of deaths to 43,230.

Today's figure is five fewer deaths compared with 154 yesterday, while it's increased from the 137 announced a week ago.

There are also another 1,118 people who have tested positive for the virus, from 167,023 tests.
WHO claims it's worried of a resurgence based on increase CASES.
I guess they are ignoring the fact most countries have increased testing significantly. So I'd be wanting to see a weekly average of DEATHS based on a 1 or 2 week rolling average.

Even with an increase in testing I suspect most of those who are likely to die if infected have already died, so while infections may continue to rise I suspect deaths will stay around about where they are.

BBC comments section full of middle aged people bemoaning those at the beach. The littering, I can agree with them on. Simply being there - not so much.

They'd soon moan when their town dies a slow death over Summer - come winter time most of the smaller "seasonal" businesses, cafes, ice cream parlours and restaurants will be boarded up.

They are for the time being, but they likely have the power to close the beach and roads on 'safety' grounds.

To be honest, the pictures on the TV per helicopter show a lot of people but they are mostly in their groups and semi distanced from each other. They aren't say having a mass public orgy exchanging bodily fluids.... It's a bit strange why the council felt the need to freak out and declare 'a major incident requiring emergency response'. Well perhaps with toilets closed that has caused a proper emergency given the number of people....that I could understand I suppose. scratchchin

A lot of people yes, but most appear to be complying with distancing.

Because local authorities can never have too much power... And they are not pointless. Right. Now stop enjoying yourself. Hang about by shift has ended and I am on flexi-maternity-sabatical leave.

But subject to judicial review and compensation claims if measures are not proportionate to the risk.

I know I watch the figures a bit too obsessively. Depression means you need every good news story going and it isn't helped when hard facts turn in the wrong direction. Your comment does however give some reality, so genuine thanks! smile

They say that their services are "overstreched" (pause for thought "why?") but then explain they have managed to issue a record 558 parking fines!!

What are they doing? They are stretched because half their staff will be doing bugger all at home at the council's behest.

There's going to be some top trolling to be done in relation to this judging from the froth on the other threads!!!!
