I'm not sure if this is the right section but it involves money and I assume news may mention it at some point.

What price increases have everyone noticed so far?

Guy at work today said his barber has gone from £10 to £15, can't see that price going back down once the barber is used to the money.
The mrs's mums hairdresser was £35, now £40 with a PPE charge ontop.
The mrs's auntie for some reason has been told previously at the dentist that she has to see the hygienist every time she goes. Its on the private side of the dentist and they want £35, yes £35 PPE charge. I assume they are opening a new box per patient.

I've heard talks of the pubs being more but not seen anything.

The price of the box has gone up by 1000%.
The hygienist now also has to wait around for 1 hour between patients.
Prices will rise or they will close....and they may have to close anyway.

The price of the box may have gone up at the start of this, but it still works out at less than £1 a mask. There is no shortage now.
Paying for extra time makes sense. Don't put it as "PPE charge" though. Just be honest that you have to book an "x" length appointment and thats what the extra cost is.

More so during original lock down but a barber I knew set up his barbershop in his living room @ £30 a pop.

Also heard somebody local with a garden room gym charging for hour bookable slots to use. He'd have a 30 minute cleaning/decon routine after each booking.

My dad was telling me on the phone earlier how a national Ford dealership had tried to charge him £15 to pick up and return his car for a service due to having to decontaminate it. He has an annual service agreement with them including free pick up so wasn't best pleased. Doubly so when they also told him they wouldn't be cleaning it either, since Covid....

In the end a receptionist at the dealers who lived nearby picked it up on her way to work and returned it in the evening for free which seems even wackier but there you go. Only found out after the event but the daft sod promised he gave it a thorough going over with disinfectant (and I am hoping he meant the car) banghead

Dentists prices will have to rise ? you're having a laugh.

Why not just chop in the Range Rover and Lambo and live on that for a while till normal rip off service resumes.

That's what the Vets are doing.

£50 Wahl clippers, no need to ever visit a barbers again
A lot will be the same, customer base has been reduced
I guess they need to charge more to earn a living, from less customers ..

I only caught a glance at my local "reduced selection" Burger King drive-thru menu, but I could swear blind they've put a Whopper meal up from £5.99 to £6.79 since re-opening

Surely before covid dentists and hygienists wore masks at least, sometimes eye protection. The added charge sounds like an excuse, they have always had PPE costs.

I’ve had to put prices up 35% across the board in the hair and beauty salon I own, PPE works out at less than £1.50 per customer but the extra time spent with each client means serving a third less people every day.

It was out prices up or not re-open.

Reduction in turnover is still drastic enough (by my forecasts) that even that won’t still guarantee a profit but we can probably operate quarter by quarter and continually assess.

It’s going to get very tough out there.

The prices on bikes have gone through the roof. For example, I had an email from Planet X offering a gravel bike for £1300 - post lockdown price has shot up to £1999. Similar price hikes at other companies too.

Gym membership costs will go up when they open again.

Gym Group sent an email round when they had to close, saying that if people continued to pay £10/m during lockdown they would be exempt from all price rises for 12 months after reopening.

The GF had her contract cancelled whilst lockdown was being announced and was escorted of the premises. Contracts that were 10 11 12 an hour before are now 8.50 an hour. Double whammy

you don't even have to spend that, my Wahl clippers were £13. As you said no reason to visit the barbers again.

What has surprised me is how much some people pay for a hair cut. I was paying £5 but a few on here were paying £30.

Or this madness is the new way of life.

Mutate to survive! etc. etc.

It's definitely going to put a dent on the whole ethos of urbanisation, so beloved of certain utopian idealists.

Private dentists are still cheerfully taking the Denplan payment.

I asked about it when ours cancelled the appts we’d made 3 months ago - they said Denplan wasn’t offering payment holidays. Errr...that isn’t how Denplan works - they just collect money and pass it on.

Range Rover and Lamborghini? Do you have any idea how much dentists and vets earn? Dentists are on about £70k and vets around £40k.
