But the vaccine will NOT go through the normal long term testing. It cant. We cant wait that long.
Evidence for that statement? The Oxford vaccine has already passed its phase 1&2 trials. Further trials are underway in places like Brazil. What do you think is missing?
Long term testing. How can you do long term testing, unless its over the long term?

What long term testing do you want on a well proven vaccine? The actual delivery mechanism has been around for many, many years. Give me examples of what you think long term testing is done on the annual flu jab. (different every year)

The last number I saw you have a 1 in 67,000 chance of dying from Covid if you're under 45.
But you're not under 45

Normally the process of approval is very effective. Except that we will shortcut the long term testing bit. So the normal standards will NOT be applied. This is when things go wrong.
What shortcuts do you think the Oxford vaccine testing have made? In fact since it is based on an earlier well tested delivery mechanism (adenovirus I think) all it is doing is teaching your immune system to recognise a particular feature of CV19 (the corona spike). This is not a drug, its a safe but as yet unproven vaccine. (unproven that it would confer significant resistance)
As above post, the long term testing.

Im not concerned about if its effective. You say "its safe". Says who, by what measure?

How can you know its safe long term with no long term testing? Im not being an arse, thats a genuine question.

Sure, i get that there will be modelling, comparisons to similiar vaccines, risk anaylsis etc etc. But its still not a long term test.

I'm guessing XJay is... Fortunately I'm still in the "about as likely to be hit by lightning" category, but only just hehe

How is it well proven? It hasnt happened yet.

Or are you suggesting that an existing vaccine will do the job?

I’m young’ish fit and healthy.
So you don't care about catching it and passing it on with possibly fatal consequences?

Great.

No, they have taken a proven safe delivery mechanism (weakened adenovirus that cannot replicate) and added the spike glycoprotein from CV19. The only issue is if the immune system responds strongly enough to that protein.

So after tens of thousands of people from all over the world have been vaccinated and many medical bodies from all over the world (including a 30,000 strong trial in USA) have found it safe and effective. You wouldnt take it?

I’m WFH, rarely go out where the public are other than on my bike. When I’m out I maintain social distancing and wear a mask when I have to.

Other than my immediate family my interaction with people at present is minimal, the case rate where I live is tiny, no one has died with COVID here for a few weeks according to the latest regional data.

The chances of me catching it are minuscule, let alone then being in a scenario where I can pass it to someone vulnerable, who should be taking their own precautions anyway.

I don’t have the flu vaccine either, should we all get that now? Anyone could pass the flu on to someone who is vulnerable to die from it.

That is my position at present, it may be subject to change, it may not.

You have to respect the fact that amgmcqueen, Winston and the rest of the awkward squad should have a choice as regards a Covid-19 vaccine injection.

The choice in question being "Which buttock do you want it in?"

How do you know? For all you know you have it now, but are asymptomatic.

I suspect many of them are more than happy to take extra precautions given they know the situation. It would be utterly foolish of them if they didn't.
So, given that it’s unlikely COVID will go away by itself, you think that a tranche of society should continue to live (indeed, you seem to think will be happy to live) a sheltered existence - in some cases for their whole lives - in order for a minority of individuals to implicitly opt out of their social contract because they simply don’t want to be vaccinated for no logical reason?
Please name a single vaccine that is 100% efficient. On the basis that there is not a single one, why, knowing this, would those at risk not take extra precautions. You seem to be under the misconception that vaccination makes everybody who has had it immune, at best it will be under 85%. Would you go and see your granny who has had a flu jab if you had the flu or a bad cold and risk giving it to them or would you stay away because you might give it to her despite her vaccination?

You think people who have vaccinations are brainwashed?

That is a particular brand of special.

And that is precisely the reason most peopleshould be vaccinated. To achieve herd immunity so that your granny doesnt get exposed to it.

Yep. And there won’t be a vaccine any time soon for his unique brand of special.

Isn't that a bit like passing some bloke stood holding a flat mobile, in the pouring rain, on a remote country road, in the dark, next to his broken down TVR and saying "should have got a Toyota"? tongue out

Pretty sure our biowarfare labs could come up with something that removes the problem.
