It wasn’t intended as derogatory or otherwise... The poster wanted to know what a Gammon was. I explained providing some context.
I now exactly what it means, I just wanted the racist definition as a reply.
Is calling somebody "woke" racist" as well?
What is the race inference in "woke" ?

I can't see one, but equally I can't see one in Gammon either, hence my question.

Gammon seems to be a derogatory term towards those of a certain political view and Brad suggested it was racist. "Woke" also seems to be a derogatory term towards those of a certain political view . So is "Woke" racist as well?

The description for a Gammon, contains the term "white male", so...

Yup, a derogatory term for White men, and used on this thread as exactly that.

angry red faced white men..hence gammon, This is good racism though so perfectly ok it seems.

There's nothing racist in the term woke.

is it only white people who hold "gammon"-type views? I didn't think it was restricted to any particular colour...

"Gammon" was specifically referring to the skin tone that the "middle aged white male" takes on when he's enraged by anything that offends his right leaning view point. I'm surprised its become such an accepted term. But this will take the discussion down the path of white privilege and "you can't be racist unless you have the power and opportunity to act on it" etc so is probably best kept for another thread.

It's very hard for Lineker to get any credit. But there is good reason for that. I read earlier in the thread that he's reported to be worth 28m ? How many of the world's problems are caused by the scrabble to accumulate more than people really need ?

With Gary sat on his nice pile of wealth, we could change the text in the cookies cartoon to "You need to be ready to share your cookie with that foreigner". It's not a message we can expect the less well off to accept from someone with such wealth? What he's doing is a token gesture, and the cynic in me thinks its an attempt to claim the moral high ground that is extremely hard for someone of his wealth to hold.

For all that 'were giving him the benefit o the doubt, and fair play to Gary etc ' .... Its now been a while since he first made this statement on the 12th of August.
As a result, and giving him an 6 weeks as a freebie, I would like to keep resurrecting this thread on a 4 weekly basis, until he takes someone in, as promised.

We're all rooting for you Gary mate.

I'd expect it to stay quiet at least until they've got enough footage for the documentary.

Gammon
latin name - dailymailus outragedus

Red Faced, White Haired, Late Middle Aged Gentlemen. Passive Aggressive by nature, they are generally hard line brexit voters who would rather torpedo immigrant boats in the channel than assist with their repatriation in the UK. Latterly, they can be found refusing to wear face masks in Morrisons because “it’s just a sniffle”.
Their transport of choice is referred to as the ‘brexit mobile’; dependent on net worth this will typically range from a Jaguar X Type saloon, through to later Jaguar models and, in certain areas.... old Lexus. Although resident across the UK, they prefer suburban habitats with a particular liking for 1970/80’s modern build detached houses.

Although once common in the UK, the last few weeks has witnessed a huge decline in gammon population levels - this being triggered by mass head explosions after the revelation that there will be a same sex couple dancing on Strictly this year.
Very good!

Easy to forget that we're in the middle of a pandemic, obvs. Must not have noticed all of the other people wearing masks either. D'oh what a forgetful sausage wink

Iranian then?

Seems a decent chap thanks to the thorough vetting process. Where is he going now?

The UK resettle most refugees closer to their home country. It's a shame we can't be as selective.
