I'm just waiting for the rest of the 'no borders' brigade to remove their garden fences and front doors.
Indeed. And on the flip side I’m just waiting for the “All lives matter” brigade to be first in the queue for homing refugees.
Are we talking about refugees?

I'd argue once you willingly pass through the first safe country you enter you become an economic migrant.
You can argue that all you like, but the legal framework in place says otherwise.
Does that matter if the majority of the population who vote for you believe they're not refugees?

There's no way it'll be a random person, it'll be one who's gone through some form of interview and process to be selected and be the 'lucky one'

Are Leicester signing any new footballers from overseas that require somewhere to stay before their luxury Leicester mansion is available?

I hope so!

Tbf Lineker isn't very connected to the club anymore, and a lot of fans have turned against him. A shame really, he did a lot for us back in 2003.

If you feel that strongly about it why don’t you go and offer a room in your home to a local homeless person or adopt a proper British child yourself? It’s entirely within your gift to do so. Then have a pop at him.
I don’t want to adopt anyone, my own kids are burden enough thanks.

Whoever it is, they will be subjected to endless re-runs of old Spurs games.

"Here's a long range goal I scored in 1991"

"Ooh yes Mr Lineker... you smashed it in from 7 yards"

‘Lineker told the newspaper he would have a home visit from the charity Refugees at Home to assess his house.’
Can you imagine if they found his house not fit for purpose? Oh the shame! biglaugh

That's because the legal framework is an ass.
So write to BJ and PV and get them to change it. I assume you voted for BJ.

And let's be clear, he was challenged by an MP on twitter to "put his money where his mouth was", and so he did.

Quite why MPs are engaging with non-politcial figures in such childish retorts I don't know.
Lineker isn't a "non-political figure" though, is he?

He is a celebrity who uses his status to draw attention to political topics with great frequency.

Would you prefer the UK was a country where if we expressed our views we were chastised or even poisoned or simply disappeared? Maybe we should be more like China or North Korea or Putin's Russia in your opinion?

That you have to even ask that question is, frankly, a little worrying.

Good on him.

I live in Germany. I know a few families who took in refugees/economic migrants, with mixed results, obviously.

They believe in helping people less well off than themselves, and they had a go at it.

Won't the refugee already have suffered enough?

Just a joke ;-)

Good on him for putting his money where his mouth is. Now, Lily Allen, about that refugee you said you would take in???

How is being a “woker” or “woke” an insult?

Dictionary definition:

Woke: alert to injustice in society, especially racism.

Surely being unwoke is the insult.

The title of this thread makes no sense unless you couldn’t give a toss about either social justice or racism.
I've never seen or heard the term 'woke' used except as an insult.

Check reddit out - you've got a much better chance of seeing these terms originate, rather than the bastardised version they become by the time they hit mainstream consciousness

My understanding is that mansions are usually quite big with a number of bedrooms so if he wants to help so badly (and not just doing this for the PR) why doesn't he put a few families up?

That's a rather childish response to a very serious topic.

Why just one? Could have a cook, gardener, cleaner and driver.

OK he's not such hypocritical tt anymore. Though having a (no doubt) vetted asylum seeker in one room of your massive house is still not the same as having a tax payer funded hotel full of terrorists and criminals at the end of your street which was full of ne'er do wells anyway.

So he is still a tt.
Ignoring the technicality of work permits, I presume everyone is on the same page here that this refugee should be employed in some capacity?

Of course that is the paradox of modern slavery where people are not allowed to legally work but are forced in to doing so by the people who brought them here.
