Probably because it's harder for the Government to ignore the commitment once the advertising benefit has passed. And the Government already spends billions every year giving free money to parents, what to McDonalds do?
I think they already do a fair bit for charity.

Not sure exactly but I think they have houses for sick and dying children from what I remember seeing on TV.

McDonald's don't come out of this looking bad.

If you didn't write such silly things, then you might find it wasn't so easy to drive a coach and horses through your posts.
You drove nothing, unless it was a Virtue Signalling MKIV.

biggrin
Anyone who uses the phrase "virtue signalling" in relation to hungry kids being fed can get in the sea.

To be fair they are a major sponsor local community, grassroots junior, girls and disability footy teams...but that may be the local franchisees rather than the company itself.

Yes, I'm aware they operate a charity.

Nice that they see some benefit in participating in free food. If I was suspicious of their motives I would ask where were they six months ago, or 12 or 24 when there were also hungry kids about.

As I said McDonalds get some free advertising and excellent PR out of this and hopefully some future profits as children realise their food tastes nice and eat it as they grow up.

Sometimes though it's a win-win and rather than looking for reasons to be suspicious you just have to say nice one McDonalds.

Effective advertising, why not.
Quite right.

McDonald's get that they'll gain far more in good will and positive publicity than the monetary amount this will cost them.

The Government don't appear to.
Exactly.

Starving kids.

Of all the hills to choose to die on, surely this one was avoidable?

All this has reminded me of, is just how unpleasant you appear to be based upon your posts.

You may want to reflect on that. Sneering is never a good look.
You will be unsurprised to learn I'm not here for your approval. smile

It's depressing how keen the people who talk about kindness and fairness are to label others as 'deplorable'. Even as I type this I know you'll be categorising it as a defence of some political position that you disapprove of. What it is to be misunderstood...
That is lucky, as going by your posting history, you are firmly lodged in the pile marked "people who give this country a bad name."

Your comments, as are those of anyone supporting the Government stance (and let us remember that the stance is to do nothing about the very real need to feed hungry children right now) is utterly deplorable. This can easily be translated into thinking that the person making those comments is themselves utterly deplorable.

I am amazed by the continuing race to the bottom by many of this thread who are almost tripping over themselves in an attempt to be as dreadful as possible.

Justifying the continued existence of hungry children and the total inaction by Government to actually do anything about it, when they have the opportunity to do so, is truly breath-taking.

I am sure you are proud of yourself for some things in your life. This is not one of them.
"Justifying the continued existence of hungry children"??? Just when you thought sanctimonious bullst couldn't get piled any higher.

You really haven't got a clue what I think on this, but do keep up the nonsense.

Schools are allocated a flat rate of £2.30 per meal for every child eligible for free school meals.

The government is paying 40 consultants £7,000 a day on the Test, Track and Trace debacle.

That money alone would feed 120,000 kids a day.

If the government can find the money for consultants, why it find it for hungry kids over half-term?

Yet here we are.

Tell us what you are doing to help alleviate the hunger of disadvantaged kids and we can all say well done.

Otherwise, all we can see is you trying to defend an abject policy yet again and attack those who are rightfully horrified by it.

We can only go on what you post and so far, the Belgian judge scores you nul points.

I think there's something wrong with Tuna to be honest.

Now, I'm not mocking him here, just to be clear, but someone who has so many contrary opinions and doesn't practice what they preach must be having a constant battle with himself inside his own head. That can't be nice.

Either that or they're a pathological liar (aka bullstter/ Walt/ charlatan, etc).

I'm being kind and sympathetic here, for the avoidance of doubt, so as not to be labelled deplorable. Bless.
Pot meet kettle.

All you keep doing is showing your deep resentment of things you don’t understand. Unable to separate emotions from the issues.

Sheesh....

Try telling a hungry child that they don’t understand what they are feeling!

Why do you keep looking for my posts from many pages ago that have nothing to do with you ?

I've engaged with you twice and on both occasions you failed to grasp even the most basic of points. Sorry pal, but you just come across as thick.
Since then you've just come on here to give me some abuse (or at least try your best).

Come on, admit it. You've got a real hard-on for me, haven't you.
Sorry to disappoint you but I'm spoken for.

And you keep proving my point. Insecure and bitter. You are likely just very disappointed with things, that's the only explanation for your tragic outbursts

Rince and repeat.

laugh One thing I'm not is insecure. Thanks for the amateur psych evaluation though.

Bitter ? Honestly ? Yes I suppose I am. Not on a personal level (I'm alright thanks, Jack) as you assert but I think events this year have shown politicians in a very bad light. The worst in a very long time actually, and that's saying something.
We deserve much, much better.

Does any of this register with you or would you like me to write it in crayon for you ?
Simply put, you're wrong (you usually are) and you're looking for a fight. Again.
I learned a long time ago that there is no point arguing with stupid people.
If you actually have anything to say, rather than launching into a personal attack, then say it.
Until then, thank you and goodnight.
