How do you get to a point in your life where you're such a cap doffer to a political party that you find yourself on the Internet suggesting that a lad who's been made an MBE by the age of 22 for the work he's done to feed kids is making up stories about his own childhood?

I can't get my head around it .
You need to remove your head from Rashford's arse. It's getting difficult to tell the two apart.
And you need to try being objective.

Suggesting he's made up stories about his own upbringing is fked up even if it's par for the course around here.

If you think someone who is malnourished looks like Rashford then you have not read a history book that describes the effects of childhood malnutrition.
Thought crimes ? Yep, the thought police are on their way. We didn't even need the pre-cogs to solve this one.

Are you honestly saying Rashford needs to look like an Ethiopian for anyone to believe that he sometimes went hungry as a kid ?
.
Malnutrition causes stunted growth in children that is a documented historical fact.

They didn't use to feed orphans very well in Victorian orphanages and the bodies they have found of eight year olds that had died were the height of four year olds.

Average heights plummeted in working class areas in Victorian London compared to heights that were in place in rural areas prior to the industrial revolution due mainly to malnutrition (as well as childhood diseases).

So no he doesn't need to look like an Ethiopian but childhood malnutrition causes stunted growth.

OK. Rashford is tall. I get it.

Child hunger is, therefore, not at Victorian levels of severity so all is well.

Nice reasoning. Have you just emerged through some sort of worm hole/ just got out of your tardis or have you been practicing ?

Fascinating.

What are you on about?

So now if you're not stunted you couldn't possibly have been hungry as a kid because you weren't medically malnourished? confused

It's insulting to people who know what it's like to go hungry.

Honestly it is like I am a heretic against your new religion or something.

I have congratulated Rashford for raising a necessary issue. Do I believe he was malnourished as a child?, not for a second. Was he occasionally hungry, he might well have been. His Mum looks a sensible type and I saw pictures of her driving him to practice when he first started out so I very much doubt she ever neglected him.

I was occasionally peckish as a child myself and a couple of schoolfriends who came for dinner were surprised by how stingy my Mum would be on the portion sizes. It was no doubt why I was 11 stone at 18 despite being over six feet. Piled on the pounds since I left home though.

Fair play for him for raising a valid issue just don't expect me to believe he was a 2000s Tiny Tim.

Why does the need always seem to evaporate when you're put on the spot?

JagLover - don't take anything I say personally mate.

It was just an observation on your reasoning. It's always a pleasure to converse with you.

You must show me 'round The Tardis sometime though. I'll pass on the worm hole. You never know where you'll end up.

That's lovely.

I don't think I've ever said that it's just those in relative poverty that are faced with child hunger issues but if I'm wrong on that one I hold my hands up.

My point was that all of them back Rashford's campaign though which does something now whilst you pick over definitions.

A bunch of blokes thinking they know better about this than all three of those bodies?

Sorry but that's a struggle.
You also struggle with reading what people post, it seems.

I've noted that on most of the material bits of the Dimbleby document I am in agreement (which I'm sure both you and he will be overjoyed at).

Where I disagree is on the use of hyperbole (as I don't think it helps anyone - especially those who fully understand the consequences of the phrases and metrics in play wink) and the need for *more* funding for any of this.

I don't think I'm evaporating.

I've pointed out the Governments own numbers on child poverty.

You seem fixated on the fact that they use relative poverty.

In a recession there are less poor people using the Governments own measure. Yay you win confused

I've pointed out perfectly constantly that organisations that do this for a living support Rashford's suggestions and all you do is grumble that parents can afford to feed their kids and poverty doesn't exist in the UK and it's all hyperbole.

Rinse and repeat.

I won't change your mind and you won't change mine so it's a bit pointless going round and round.

Money.
Mouth.
Do you know what it is like to go hungry?
Genuine question.
Because I fking well do.
Have you had your single parent go without in order to supply PE kit that matched that of your peers and found out about it afterwards?
I have.
So crack on, let us all know how much you know from personal experience, let us all know how much you personally understand this subject.
Thought not.

No I don't.

It isn't something I've ever had to worry about thank god.

Personally I think it's a bit odd that you take objection to me picking JagLover up on his comments yet you seem fine with his suggestion that because Rashford isn't stunted through malnutrition he can't have gone too hungry "whatever his true history was".

It is really quite simple.
Had Mr Radford been malnourished as a child it is impossible he would have developed his current physique.
Not unlikely, simply impossible. Google it FFS it seriously cannot happen.
I am in no way suggesting there are no hungry children out there, simply pointing out that their parents have enough money to feed them, the fact they fail to do so will not be fixed by throwing more money at it.
I'm good with funding feeding the kids but giving more money to feckless parents. No.

The first mention of malnutrition that I can see today is from JagLover when he suggested that Rashford hasn't been entirely truthful or whatever "whatever his true history was" was supposed to imply.

You should probably ask JagLover why he chose to bring it up rather than me.

I wouldn’t bother Stewie. Many of these lot have been brainwashed by the Tory narrative that nobody is poor or hungry apart from by choice.

No amount of reason, statistics, examples or otherwise will change their mind.

They’re happy as a pig in st rolling around in their own ignorance.

I suggest leaving them to it. Pig st really stinks.

At this point I think we should move on to another topic, at least until the inevitable U-Turn.

I'm surprised nobody in government has come up with the idea of a return to workhouses TBH.

Make the kids work for their supper. They can make PPE for the NHS for now (we'll think what else they can make post pandemic if that time ever comes).
Government provide a roof over their heads. Keeps 'em fed and watered. Visiting rights for parents (for a minimal fee) once a week, etc etc.

This will teach them all about the work ethic and the country will be stronger as a result.
The downsides are minimal.
Who's up for it ? Turbobloke ? Tuna ? What say you ?
My father and his brother spent some time in a workhouse when they were children, they did not like it but it did them both the world of good. They worked hard were both successful and were able to provide their children with a good home and food on the table everyday. Great idea.

Funny,
Perhaps you could point out where my ignorance is.
Unlikely as you do not have a fking clue, or perhaps you would like to roll up and trounce my experience with your hard earned wisdom, perhaps you could call me out regards my life experience and prove me wrong.
Or you could just be a on the interweb with no fking idea.
I'll let you guess where I think you lie.
